Does anyone know of a 16"-18" threaded barrel to fit a Savage Axis in .308? The factory barrel doesn't have enough material to be threaded 5/8"-24 unless I cut it back to about 12". My old YHM 30LT needs a new home and I'd like to put it on my cheap Walmart clearance .308. I don't feel like getting a tax stamp and engraving it. Thanks for any replies.

The metal would be awfully thin at the threads.

ETA: Even 9/16"-24 with a shoulder for the mount to snug against makes it an SBR.

I asked Morgan about a sporter profile barrel and he said 1/2" would be fine on a 30-06.
