Hey fellas.  I served 6 years Security Forces in the AF but all we used was flak jackets and I have no idea what kind of bullet proof vests they issued us.  So...I am thinking about getting plates and a carrier and would like some advice please.

1.  Budget:  Not really a factor.
2.  Height 6' and weight 210.

Anything else I need to add in order to give you guys an idea of what to suggest?  Thinking about Crye Precision but not sure if I'd need the JPC 2.0, CPC, JPC, etc...

I'd also like a soft bulletproof vest.

If budget isn't a factor, get Hesco 3810s.

They're expensive, but impressively lightweight for something that stops the full range of realistic rifle threats, including some unrealistic threats.

Hesco 3810s and a jpc 2.0 with a mag flap

L210s and a jpc or the new trex carrier if you want 2 setups for the price of the a above option.

All very attainable atm

Maybe a little less than that.  Budget isn't a real big deal but I don't want to spend a ton.  How bout $500 or below?

For a set of for a plates or per plate?

The really good US made NIJ certified plates are going to run north of $500 per plate.

The 3810 is often regarded as being the best plate that money can buy, unless you want something thin enough to be worn concealed under clothing (which is what the U210 was designed for).

If you're already willing to spend $500 per plate, being willing to push your budget for 3810s will get you a plate that's vastly superior to anything you're going to get for less than $500.

Take a look at the price at this distributor:

I can vouch for sabersolutions-

I went with hesco 3611's. I liked the built in foam padding for some energy absorption. Ymmv.

Saber is gtg. Got my 3810’s there.

Imo if budget is no issue then 4800’s or 3810’s are no brainers

Take a look at Duritium III+ GT2 plates. They are thin, as light as Hesco, multi curve and can stop a wide range of common bullets. M193, M855(A1), M80.

In stock, shipping the same day for $475 per plate.

This is where I got them. I can't comment on how well they work, but the feel good.

500 for the entire setup?

You're pretty much stuck with L210s if you want to come in at around the $500 mark.

Kota Outfitters currently has L210's available for pre-order for $300/pair after using promo code GMLOGMD. Pair that with Trex Arms AC1 plate carrier for $190, then add some sort of placard and an IFAK, and you've got a very good complete US-made plate carrier setup for less than the price of a budget AR15 with a budget optic, light, and sling.

This is probably the most economical option.

How does the L210 compare to the RMA 1091? The RMA is a little more for a mulitcurve plate.

If multi curve is an option, multi curve is the solution.

The RMA 1091 is more than just a little more expensive. But if you're willing to spend the extra money, and you don't mind the 1091 being more than double the thickness of the L210, then multcurve is pretty awesome.

Lol, guy says budget isn't an issue and then states he wants plates that cost less than 85% of the quality plate options.

Very little of what has been suggested is now relevant to what the op will pay for.

For your budget it's really just the L210 I'd suggest, unless you really want level IV.

Velocity systems LPAC and U210s. 3810s for the poors. L210s for the destitute.

OP needs to realistically assess his likely threat level, and state such.  Absent such a realistic threat assessment/statement, any further comments are speculative, at best.

One "size" does not fit all.

I reiterate, if you're already willing to spend $500 per plate, you don't need to push that budget much further to get 3810s.

If $500 is the top budget limit OP is pretty limited.

If you want light weight and high protection you pay for it.  At $500 you'll have to determine what you're willing to sacrifice.

@PFran42

Is U210 not rated for 7.62 X 51
While 3810 is rated for 7.62 X 51  ?

From my understanding they both weigh the same for similar cuts. So, apart from the thickness of the plates, what advantage does the U210 have over the 3810?

The U210 is officially rated for M855A1 while the 3810 isn't, since the U210 is constructed almost entirely of ceramic while the 3810 is constructed with a thinner ceramic face with lots of UHMWPE behind it.

It's possible that the 3810 will stop M855A1, but in order for them to officially claim protection against it, it has to consistently pass backface deformation standards and stop a certain number of rounds before failure.

U210s will reportedly stop M80 but to pass the backface deformation test you need to wear IIIA.
