NY legal model for when I'm over there. If I am stuck with 10 rounds it might as well be 10 rounds of .308!

Does anybody make a cloth sling in tan or brown? All I've found is OD.

I like it is it a synthetic stock or wood? I was looking at a NY legal one as well but was thinking about  SA serial numbers and original parts. I think it was about $1,900 for a new SA

Synthetic. It came with the black stock and scout scope rail. I was given the tan stock which was missing the top handguard, so I ordered an Ultimak. MSRP is $1,987, and local retail is around $1,825 with a synthetic stock.

Nice, but a little rich for my blood right now. Thank you though for the suggestion!

You can still find tan SMLE/Enfield/FAL slings (original and repro) in the $25 and under range. Simple, very sturdy, and lightweight. They are more of a carrying strap than a shooting sling, however.

UPC for the NY M1A is 706397906641, Bill Hicks has them in stock if you'd like your dealer to order you one.

The Ultimak mount can be had on Primary Arms for around $160, most places are $190-$199.

The rifle itself comes in a black stock with a rail mount handguard.

If you prefer Walnut the UPC is 706397906634

I like! It's a 10rd, detachable mag, .308 Garand!

I haven't posted here in a long time, but I remember the work you've done in elections and for the 2nd Amendment so if you want this I'll send it to you. I've had it for 15 plus years so I can't remember exactly where I got it but it claims to be USGI and I've always avoided repros if possible. So it could be a repro but I don't thing it is. I have several on Garands and they are nice.

So just let me know. 2 conditions. 1)You have to post pics of it on the rifle and 2) if you don't need it anymore and still have it I could use the black plastic/fiberglass handguard that went around the factory scout mount. Number 2 is not necessary but I sure could use it, I broke mine.

ETA: How hard was it to mount the Ultimak. What did you use to ensure it was square and level?

Thank you, I will gladly accept your offer.

I got the stock back, but not the upper handguard. But I bet you there are a few sitting in our main store's warehouse, I'll check. If we have one I'll grab it for you.

I did not mount the Ultimak. I'm embarrassed to admit I could not get the trigger guard out of the original stock it was in so tight. I gave it to one of our employees who was an armored in the 10th Mountain. He said he needed to use a rubber mallet to get it out. Springfield really jammed it in there when they built it.

Ok PM me your address and Ill get it on its way. If you can find a handguard I'll take it but no big deal if you don't.

I'm trying to decide if I want to pony up for an Ultimak, try my dremel skills on a USGI or maybe even ditch the scout mount totally and go with a solid traditional handguard.

I've experienced the super tight trigger group also, I thought I was going to break mine the first time. At least you don't have to worry about it falling off.

ETA: I went and cleaned out my PM mailbox, it was full of crap from 2009

A simpler less costly and equally effective New York solution is an M1 garand. I even used one in three gun when I still lived there. Even though I am now in free America and can have any rifle and magazine I choose the M1 still gets a good amount of work

Nope, sorry, don't want 30-06 and I don't want 8 round clips. The M1A allows me to use 20 round mags when outside of NYS, and 5 round mags are readily available for hunting. The Ultimak is also a God send.

No problem, enjoy.

Don't worry if nothing turns up, I'll figure something out. As you shoot please keep us updated on how you like the Ultimak. I just picked up an Aimpoint PRO in the Academy 28% off sale so I may just get an Ultimak to mount it on. Got to love a sale that causes you to spend more money.

How well does the Aimpoint work mounted on the rail that low? I just use irons on my Scout Squad, and have been thinking of mounting an Aimpoint

That’s cool, too.

It’s a great set up.  I’m thinking of chopping the stock a bit to shorten the LOP and put on a Hogue grind to fit recoil pad.

Pick up a Turner AWS in your desired color and thank me later.

ETA: Just saw you got it figured out. Nice looking stick and not a bad compromise if you gotta do NY.
