After I finished the build another member here wanted to swap barrels so this is the final version.
Because of your original thread on the Apex kit, I purchased a kit and receiver and put one together.
And since then it is cheaper to just buy trade ins off of gunbroker.

But I like the challenge of building a gun.
What should I look for on Gunbroker, I am interested in building a shotgun.

I kept the Urbino stock  from Mesa Tactical but I replaced the broken buttpad. Also from Mesa Tactical, I added an 8 shot side saddle. I also added a +3 breacher extension from VCS as well as a VCS big dome safety, VCS stainless steel follower and Wolff extra power magazine spring. I replaced the forend with a Surefire LED forend and added a Blue Force Gear Vickers sling. All that is left to do now is send the barrel out to VCS to have the VCS mod performed.

Wanted a mix of oldschool and newschool cool. This 590 was light striking like crazy out of the box...firing pin spring was too stiff. Solution? Remove it completely. Runs like a top now...just don't drop it. Kinda like the good old days.

Picked up a stock set from Numrich and cut to 10.5", ground a recoil pad to fit, added esstac card and a light that has some sentimental value (Pentagon light from early 2ks). Sling attachment point was (ugly but solid) sewn by me. This is quickly becoming my favorite firearm to shoot.

Getting ready for opening day of firearms (light disabled for hunting).

Lots of cosmetic blems, but I dont care... It's a supplementation to the HD/nightstand handguns.

I added, which I already had, a Wilson combat +2... Not wanting to dump a lot of money in it (I say) but thinking a 18" barrel to replace the 20. Will definitely add a side saddle and going to add/velcro an esstac card to the buttstock.

Up in the air about the barrel... what do you guys think? Keep the 20 or get an 18?

I need to hit up my local GT distributors, I never have. I would be all over that like stink on a monkey. My vote is either keep it or cut it down yourself. a bead isn't hard to install or you can do one of those clip on fiber optic site. keeps the budget theme going.

I plan on doing it to a 20" barrel with rifle sights, which will be more annoying but I"m bored.

Great find!

I would cut the barrel. I just prefer 18" guns. Install an xs front sight and install the Velcro on the receiver for the cards.

I'd keep the 20". I had a Winchester 1300 I cut down to 20" and it just seemed to handle and point better than a 18". How about getting a longer magazine extension instead of a shorter barrel?

I tried a Hogue short lop stock for the 18 inch gun, but never could find a way to keep my thumb knuckle out of my snoot. I wasn`t going to put heatshields on the guns, but I reload in a hurry by rolling the gun upside down to feed it. its easier & faster for me to stuff a shell down into a hole than stuff it up into a hole, and that barrel gets hot fast on my left hand. YMMV   Got the Crimson Trace lights on sale & inletted the forends to take a Magpul cantilever mount. yes, I used a Dremel. I drilled & tapped the barrel lug to thread a sling swivel stud in each gun & drilled the stock and the shockwave handle to take a stud that is threaded for wood stocks. the slings are from MidwayUSA, they had a sale a while back, I thing the maker was Outdoor Something. they seem to be holding up pretty well & hanging off my shoulder the Shockwave almost disappears beside a black shirt. I drilled & tapped the heatshield on the Shockwave for a brass bead & the protected FO sight on the larger gun is Hiviz lowmount. I tried the higher sight so I could see it better, but at 20 yards I was hitting way too low, maybe 22 inches.
I would rather use a carbine in the event of HD, but the woods out behind the old homestead have houses, children, and horses now, so I went to shotguns.
