I use my NV for like two hours ever day, so I guess you could say things are getting pretty serious.

I've tried several of the more budget-friendly ways of filming through my PVS-14, and although they work somewhat, they all leave a lot to be desired.  The problem is, the next jump in "quality" is basically a 10X jump in price.   And even then, solutions like the MOD Armory or UNV PVS-14 iPhone Adapter only work with old phones.  Night Vision Outfitters has an aluminum adapter for $109, but info on it is skinny.  BCO makes the LMPR out of what appears to be melted black playdough, and charges over $400 for it, without a power source.  I really want to like that one, but these #BecauseNightVision pricing strategies are derpy.

This brings us to the TNVC FoneMate. It's $159.  That's not a casual spend for me.  Was hoping some of you owned one and could give some feedback.  I'm going to be using it mostly for filming hand-held hunting videos where pigs are shot with thermal but also recorded by a bystander with NV.

I don't have much to add, except after no more than 3 hunts and otherwise living in a padded case, my Because Operator LPMR barely stays on my binos and it freely rotates on its own. Additionally, the housing with the "guts" wobbles on the eyepiece ring clamp thingy like its about to fall apart. . Definitely not worth the $400. I've decided to just go back to the simpler times of telling people great NV hunting stories and showing off kill pics. I wish you good luck in your quest for superior NV filming.

Sam’s got a point lol

FWIW, I’ve had equal mixed results with the universal ones. The last one I got was an aluminum one from arms unlimited. Works way better than the plastic ones but still has some play where the phone can move. If you’ll be doing more videos than photos I’d probably just spring for the BCO. I say probably because I haven’t used one but everyone says it’s good. At least on the interwebz.

I have the unobtainium camera. Works great but the video quality isn’t at the level I’d like. For the cost, it’s a great camera though.

Edit to add: the unobtainium one has a moon clip that you can tighten down between the eyepiece ring. It helps it from moving but it’ll still move sometimes

I haven’t tried this one yet I may have to buy one and give it a shot. @ThisWildAdventure I’d go for it with the 14 day return policy

It's the most stable units out there specifically made for a PVS-14, believe me I tried all the other cheap alternatives and you're correct.  You have 14 days to try it out with no questions asked. We've not had one returned as yet and we sell a bunch of these every week.

The "clamp" for the eyecup retaining ring is designed to be able to flex and therefore to be tightened by squeezing the "arms" together to create more tension, and depending on tolerances I've seen some looser than others out of the box.

The one I have I've been using fairly regularly for quite some time now, but generally with the camera mounted to the top of the device (added benefit of not needing any image rotation for the video) and periodically tightening the clamp, I haven't experienced issues with it more or less staying put, but I do have to regularly tighten it.

Going to give it another shot tonight. I think I've got it tightened up per your advice. Hopefully it works and I get some good pig kill footage.

Man that looks like my cup of tea.  I really don't want to deal with the splash back of an iPhone, plus this is now wearable.

I contacted Unobtanium.  They said they fixed the one common issue, which was the bracket spinning around the eye cup accessory ring.  Sounds like just a tactical rubber band, but if it's works, it works.

Zero warranty on this product though, so if it shits the bed, you're out that hundo.

Great music, Sam! And good photos, Vic.

But I am not looking for images that show what tubes can do when used with the FoneMate.  I am looking for reviews of what's it's like to try to use the FoneMate to take videos! I had one guy PM me his lukewarm review.  Was hoping there would be more end-users who aren't TNVC employees!
