Evening

I was able to pick up about 320rnds of mostly boxed surplus GI ammo. Most of is it M2 ball,  3 sealed boxes of AP - the normal suplus stuff.

There are are a few rounds I cannot identify

These puppies have almost a blue-green tip to them. Maybe faded Black tip? I'm not sure.

Headstamped RA 42

Any thoughts? See below

Remington Arms 1942, aircraft ammo (extra primer annulus), likely British RAF Contract ammo....I'd have to research to see what the tip denotes, but likely tracer...

Ahhh very cool! I'm interested what you could uncover.

Whats the benefit of the extra annulus?

Holds the primer in the pocket tighter...a primer popping out in an aircraft gun could have drastic consequences (jammed gun(s), out of the fight). They started using this extra annulus punch in WWI.

This may also just be US aircraft ammo....again, I'll have to do some more digging...

ETA The only reference I can find so far to an RA 42 headtamped green tipped round is its AP....
