A .300 Blackout Steyr AUG is FINALLY ON THE WAY!

TL;DW - AUG in 300 BLK is coming to the US market.  No specific release date yet.  Comes with a 6 position gas regulator: normal, low velocity, adverse, adverse+, adverse++, off.

Also looks like we'll be getting the NATO stock with bolt release.

He said they will in the video, hopefully under $600.

I’ll want a 14.5”.

Love that, but I’m guessing 700 because it’s steyr

I think my 20" barrel was a little under $500, and the recently-reintroduced 24" heavy barrels with bipods are $700.

I’d be in for a NATO stock with bolt release.

Never really got interested in 300blk…

…being and AR guy that would mean getting a spare upper (with buis scope etc) if not another complete gun… but the QD barrel of the AUG may be extremely convenient in this case

I’m actually quite interested in a 300 bullpup, but the AR QD uppers are more practical than QD barrels because they stay zeroed with the appropriate optic.

I’ll be keeping my eye on this.

Interesting. But more interested if they can do it on 14.5” barrels.

At the roundabouts in Tunis last week,  all the cops were sporting Aug's with clear mags.

It's their usual shakedown routine, but it's hard to believe poverty is a thing there with such fine resources.

I’d like to hear more about the other items coming that weren’t discussed in the video. I’m guessing 9mm kits with the new 9mm magazine insert.

This announcement has me seriously interested in an AUG

My interest ship sailed on the .300 Blackout probably ten years ago.  So my take, cool Steyr is bringing it to market but meh, the round is expensive and a pain in the ass.  The engineering in the gas system is pretty impressive given how finicky the BLK is with all the combinations of suppressed vs nonsuppressed, sub vs supersonic rounds.

Now the pistol caliber AUG I could get behind.  I always say “yes” to 9mm but I kinda also want a .40 flavor like they sold to Brazil.

Hellls yes!!

I've been wanting this for some time! And it's literally just a barrel swap from 5.56 to .300 BLK.

This will be the perfect suppressed HD rifle.

AUG >>>> AR15 any day

I may actually use my AUG on hogs if I can get a 300 blk barrel. Don’t like shooting them with 5.56/2.23.

Price has come down a lot. Especially since PSA started making ammo and pushing down the market price.

With 7.62x39 going up in price, the cost is not as much different than it used to be.

Saw that yeasterday.
My last AUG box from the PSA sale has 300 blk on it so I figured it was out there somewhere.
Along with the typical 556  & 9mm
See if I can pick up a barrel when they hit the USA.

And yes hopefully some 9mm conversion for the US too last kit from RTG was over 5k with 4 mags
Before that I saw,one sell for 3500 two mags on GB.

They kept saying how modular the system is but it only took 40+ years to get a civvy conversion for the masses in the USA and as of now it's only a teaser.
We'll see how it goes for the US consumer there was a,time when Styer said NO to 300 blkout after lots of inquaries from the general public.

Looks like Steyr also went through the approval process for the AUG in 7.62x39, 5.45, and .222rem.

With as little barrel as there is past the gas port, I wouldn't hold my breath. That lack of pressure (due to the uncorking so soon after the gas port) is why they have so many settings 300 specific gas settings.

And statistically increase the frequency of getting mags in both calibers mixed up thereby creating kabooms next to your face while creating long noodley squibs from 300blk going down a 5.56 bore.

One could always keep 556 or 300 in waffle mags.

I plan to,since waffles are all I have.
They also mentioned they will be making 300 specific waffles since they are specific to 556 now so I would think they would be  different color and marked 300 black out or some such.

I look forward to getting at least one barrel for one of my AUG's not so much spare waffles since they went back up in price. And I'm sure since they are a new product they will be pricey.

Did score 6 more NIW 42's for 30 apiece right after the PSA sale 2nd AUG purchase.

Maybe I'll just use my Pmags and AC Unity mags for 300 since the vid said they have excelled where the waffles were hinted at needing a redesign.

They said they need to do more testing which could mean years from past experience. They've been talking about this since at least 2016 where the guys at the NRAAM Steyr booth openly told me they didn't want this because people would blow their guns up. I'm not going to get my hopes up too soon.

That’s because it is them.

I waited 6 years for one part that I ordered. Six years! The ex PR person for steyr is here on arfcom and he fought for years to have them adopt the 6.5 cm in their bolt guns and they finally did it 10 years after the fact. The MF pistols are great and all but again, they’ve missed the boat by not having a factory optics ready gun.

Steyr has excellent high quality products, of that there’s no doubt. However they also excel at always being behind the curve of what the market wants. These .300 blk barrels are a prime example of this.

It's not a standard A2 bird cage, but certainly A2 inspired. Steyr Austria has been using it on 300 BLK barrels for years, including the EKO Cobra rifles. I dig it, but to each their own. At least Steyr USA didn't just use the same tulip they use on 5.56 barrels.

It makes sense from a safety standard to have .300 and 5.56 barrels be visibly different at a glance, especially for a modular rifle like the AUG.

Having different muzzle devices between calibers helps with this.

Stop making sense. Tulips are sexy.

More than .300 I’d like to see a return to the lightweight AUG. Like the M16 they got it right the first time.

Still glad it finally happened.

I went with the A2 because it brings the OAL down about 3/4”, and it is better at reducing flash than the Tulip.

Are they actually "coming to" the US or being made here? Interesting that IWI can no longer import 300aac X95s, but now Steyr can import this.  Not a complaint, I'm glad to see it coming, just odd.
