Thanks so much, that was super easy, and the reduced power spring is way better. This gin is actually surprisingly simple.

My factory stock came today.  No pics yet.

Previously I had the Kriss Vector 1913 folding stock which I replaced with a Magpul UCS.  The UCS was a lot more solid than the Vector stock.

The Kuna stock is ergonomically better for the gun.  The dropped cheek weld makes the sights usable when they are flipped down.  The UCS would only let you use them flipped up, there was no way to get your head low enough otherwise.  All the controls are accessible and it doesn't fold close enough to the receiver to hit the bolt release.  It's lighter weight without feeling cheap and locks up very solid when open.  My biggest complaint is when folded, there's no spring tension or anything to keep the stock folded.  If you bounce around with it, it'll flop open.  The UCS did have some spring tension that held it folded pretty nicely.  The stock latches on the magwell lip.  I missed that the first time.  I might argue I prefer the spring tension to the latching but holding it is better than flopping around for sure.

I'm sure HS-P produces this themselves, but it very much reminds me of the AC-Unity HK folding stocks in construction.

All told, it's "correct" (OEM and ergonomically!) for the gun so I'll probably leave it mounted as the final stock.  With the latching solved (derp) there's absolutely nothing wrong anymore!  The UCS will probably grow into a brand new gun if I'm not careful.

ETA - I need to find the lower-height mount for my red dot now.  I had a high-mount (which is probably pictured in the thread somewhere) to make it work with the Magpul stock but now I wish it was a little lower.

The Kuna factory stock is designed to lock onto the magwell when folded. There is a small latch sticking out of the right side rear of the stock that locks under the magwell lip.  Note that this only works with the stock fully collapsed or pulled out to the first position.  The other two positions won’t lock because the of downward angle of the stock, plus when fully extended the latch is past the magwell.  The first position is probably the best as with the fully collapsed position you have to push the stock down a little to get the latch under the magwell lip.

Midwest Industries and HB Industries are both working on Kuna rails.  Hopefully they each get something good cooked up and bring them to market!

Also, Springfield Armory has 10 and 20 round Kuna mags available for their "international rifle" and " international pistol" respectively.  We need to put some pressure on them to bring those mags to the US market!  I tried in the SA industry forum but they've not replied.

I just ordered a Kuna today. I’d like to SBR it but have a question. This will be my first one. Please help.

Would my name and address actually have to be engraved into the receiver to do it?
I’m asking because some people say yes and some say no.

What stock would you recommend?

Thanks for everything, Terry

The answer is maybe on the engraving.  Currently there is a notice to change the rule and take credit for the existing factory markings without having to add your info.  The comment period ends July 7th.  After that, they may or may not choose to adopt it, although it’s pretty likely they will.  Given the fact that Form 1 approvals currently take over two months, it’s possible that it will be decided one way or another by the time you get your approval.

For stocks, I prefer the factory stock.

I think you'll like it.  I really like mine.  My stamp got approved last week or so.

Now need to decide on an optic.

Might give EoTech another chance and get an EXPS3-0 or possibly something from Holosun like an AEMS Pro X2.
7/17/2026 5:59:32 PM EDT
[Last Edit: sparky-kb][Edited] [#21]

I just mounted an EXPS3-0 to my Kuna SBR today and got it zeroed. I noticed the optic moving to the rear so I adjusted the mount tension to the point that it takes substantial pressure with both thumbs to close it and nearly requires a tool to unlatch.  I push it all the way forward in the pic slot while mounting.  It keeps walking backwards in the slot.

It has since moved even further, I just haven't taken a picture.  At some point, the recoil lug is going to hit the rear of the Picatinny slot and stop if it hasn't already.  I'm probably going to just leave it there since I don't think it's actually reciprocating forward and backwards.  I don't think I can make the QD mount any tighter without breaking something

I'm wondering if there isn't something weird with the Kuna recoil impulse that's causing the optic to go backwards instead of wanting to move forward into the lug it's pressed against.  Something like the bolt slamming closed being sharper than the rearward recoil of the fired round maybe?

Anyone else experienced this with their suppressed Kuna?

Have you tried the optic in another slot?
Is the optic new? If used a lot, maybe the mount has been deformed?
Use a micrometer to mic the rail slots and compare those measurements to another flat top upper.
Just a few thoughts I can come up with.

It probably is moving back and forth and parts inside will likely fail. Search for loose collimating mirror inside Eotech for pics. Eotech’s bad reputation partially stems from loose optics due to out of spec mounts or rails.

For whatever reason it's going backwards instead of forwards as physics would suggest.  I don't have a good way to tell if it's actually moving both ways.  It appears to only want to move backwards.

I think I'm going to add a Unity riser and see what happens.  Ideally, it'll fit that rail better and the issue will be resolved.  The optic is a smidge too low for passive aiming under NODs anyway.  Workable, but I'd prefer higher.

If the optic slides on the Unity rail I'll send it back to EOTech.  If the Unity riser slides on the Kuna, I'll get ahold of Springfield.

[#25]
Ended up putting an Arisaka EXPS Mk2 1.93 mount on my EXPS3-0.

Seems to have fixed the problem with the optic sliding on the rail and makes passive use with NOD's a little easier.  The ADM mount had almost no play in the Picatinny slot to begin with, whereas the stock EOTech QD mount had a lot of room to move fore and aft.  The ADM cross bolt fills the slot almost perfectly.

Also added a single point sling.

Just waiting on the MK2 SMS Trinity to come out and also anxiously waiting for Midwest Industries and HB Industries to release their extended handguards.

This is probably the best looking kuna I have ever seen. The default gun looks kinda retarded with how short the handguard and barrel is. Hopefully one day they release one with a longer handguard and barrel.

I think they look better with a handguard extension as well.

I'm excited to see what the HB Industries and Midwest Industries extended handguards look like.  I've held off on the Haga in anticipation of the aluminum options.

MI should be pretty close to release.  HBI sounds like they're going to be a little bit longer.

Yes, to me, this is the best look an feel. Maybe not if you want an ultra compact pcc, I don't really need an ultra compact one.
The only thing about either the 309 or my wolfman, is they are thick, they don't touch the handguard, but there isn't a lot of space so I'd be concerned about heat. Thats why my obsidian is on the Kuna for now, just wanted to see how the 309 looks.

I love the look, but one of the issues is that the sizes of the newer cans is getting bigger and either won’t fit under the handguard, of if they do, fit so closely that you can’t use the forward M-Lok slots and also heats up the handguard.

True. MI designed theirs to accommodate suppressors up to 1.6 inches in diameter and still allow full use of the MLOK slots.  That still rules out some of the larger cans but allows quite a few.  Unsure about the details of the HBI rail.

I'm going to try out the BOE IncoLite 9 on mine.  Basically the same length as the Obsidian 9 in short configuration but lighter, bigger diameter (1.5), and better suppression.

Gotta see how my local FFL is going to proceed with the transfer.  It should arrive there today.

Personally, I'm 0.0% bothered by the new tri-lugs.  I think it should have been the first option but good tri-lugs are inexpensive and available for the 1/2x28 muzzle.  I've put so many on by now and have had no problems.  Plus if you'd rather have a flash suppressor for that monstrous 9mm blast, they're a lot cheaper in 1/2x28 than the QD tri-lug ones.

Honestly, the biggest offender here is the CZ Scorpion Evo 3.  I hate the dumb M18 threads mine came with, the tri-lug adapter for that looks super stupid.  I know later ones came 1/2x28 which would have been better.  A factory tri-lug would have been primo.

The only downside to the original threaded barrel is that the barrel shoulder is pretty narrow.  It hasn't been an issue on mine, nor have I heard of it being one with anyone else, but it's still not as solid as having the tri-lug machined into the barrel.  Just something to consdier.

Reposting this from the suppressor subforum in case anyone is looking for a new suppressor for their Kuna.

I got recently got a BOE IncoLite 9 in and installed a Rugged RU3 tri-lug mount.  The suppressor itself was only $415 shipped and came with a direct thread adapter.

It's slightly longer than my Obsidian 9 in short configuration but much shorter than the Obsidian in long form.

Weight is basically the same as the Obsidian in short configuration.

Now on to sound...

It sounds like the full length Obsidian 9 to me but I've not got a super discerning ear.  It absolutely stomps the Obsidian in short mode though.

Couple of quick comparison vids.

Kuna - Rugged Obsidian 9 (short) vs BOE IncoLite 9
