So convinced the wife for another “investment”

Have been wanting a colt m16 but lately been on a 1919a4 kick

If I get the colt then that is my entire budget. With the 1919 i could pick up another m11/9 and with the large upper dedicate it to .223

Thoughts?

And I already have an Uzi and an M11/9 with large 9mm so Need to consider that

Personally I would rather have a m16 over a 1919 and another m11/9.

As you know the m16 is super versatile and a better "investment" IMHO.

I've got an uzi, m11/9 and a lightning link. I say go with the R.R. I figure if I want a beltfed I'll grab a shrike one of these days. The cmmg guard will be my next link host, I was never impressed with the blowback 9mm uppers in fa, but radial delayed makes me want to give it another shot. Just too many options on the 16 platform vs the 1919.

You know you want the M16, and you'll end up with one eventually, but it will be years from now and you'll pay a lot more for it. Especially if you already have an M11/9... it's a no brainer.

RR M16

You already have two sub guns, a third would just collect dust. The Lage max11/15 upper is good for the m11 owner on a budget but it's no M16 plus we are talking a multi year wait at this point. M1919s are cool but very large, heavy, expensive to feed and must be shot from a tripod so range access may be limited.

The m16 is cheap to shoot, you already have uppers and if you want a belt fed get a fightlite MCR 60. If you can only own one MG an M16 is what most ppl recommend, it's a grail gun.

I was kind of in the same situation. I own an M11/9 with the Lage Drum upper and a Lage 11k upper with a great running 22 kit. When the Max-11/15 was announced I jumped on the waiting list (#295 in March of 2017). At that time I decided I didn't want to drill a hole in my pristine M11/9 so I would purchase another M11/9 to dedicate to the Max-11/15 upper. As pricing in the $3K area started coming out my wife and I decided that instead of spending $8K on the gun, $3K on the upper, then another $3K down the road on a second upper (300 BLK or 7.62x39) we would get a registered receiver that could utilize the uppers I already own. We were looking at $18-$20K for the RR vs. $14K for the M11/9 setup. Since then the Internal Recoil Mechanism version of the Max-11/15 was announced which doesn't require drilling a hole in the M11/9's receiver but it wasn't part of the original ATF submission so approval of that style wasn't guaranteed. We recently purchased a Colt 614 which was higher than the non-Colt receivers we originally priced but we're really excited about it. When the ATF approval of both versions of the Max-11/15 was announced yesterday my immediate reaction was maybe I'll purchase it anyway, then I realized I could spend that money on a Fightlite beltfed upper for the RR and leave the M11/9 as a subgun.

I would add another vote for an M16.

Assuming your budget is ~$25 to 27K if you are considering a 1919 and a M11.  If you have to have the 1919 now,  I would get the 1919 and save the 7 to 9K you didnt spend on the $18K 1919 and put it toward a RLL or non-Colt receiver M16 sometime in the future.

Belt fed or go home. Nothing quite like spitting rounds down range with a rifle caliber belt fed machine gun.

Sell the Uzi and M11/9; add up all the cash and get the M16 AND 1919.  The M16 can replace whatever you can do with the Uzi or M11 today and you'll want something for those short range sessions.  The 1919 needs a mount, crates of ammo, linker/loader, tools, chair, and possibly an assistant; not a grab and go situation but a check list item by item situation.  The BMG will definitley put a dent in your finances if you plan to shoot a lot as the days of cheap ammo is gone.

Yeah that’s about my budget, was thinking it through can get the M16 sell the m11 (the Uzi I’m keeping) and save for the 1919. Seems like the prices aren’t rising as quick on those

With the Uzi i don’t need another  9 sub gun

My vote is 1919. A well built gun that you can hammer away with for a lifetime.   2 buddy both had 1919s and ran at least 100k rnds ore more,  can run them from bipod, tripod stand up pedestal  mount or even no mount from a sling.  Barrels and links are cheap as are parts.

The 1919 was fun when you could get 8mm ammo for pennies a round.  Running 30-06 or 308 (and it's associated expense) sort of took joy out of it for me. Not even running it as a A6 made it fun again

I own all 3, a Sendra M16, a M11/9 and a Ramo 1919. The M16 is the best of the bunch. Buy a well done conversion and spend the savings on a MCR upper and ammo.

Yes but a 1919 is a boring beltfed. Set the beast down on a tripod/ground and pull trigger and waste 50cent ammo.

M16 on the other hand has multiple conversions even beltfed and more users can do more things with it.

M16 all day

Sell the M11 for say $6500 add that to your budget of 27k and now you have $33500.  Buy 1919a4 for 16k they are out there and 17k for RR and now you have both.

Another vote for the M16.

I've owned a bunch of MGs over the decades, but the two that I will never sell are my Colt M16A1 (bought as-new in 1994) and my Vector Uzi (bought NIB in 2001). The Uzi is reliable in 9mm, .45 and .22RF; the '16 runs perfect with every upper from 10.3" to belt-fed. Every other MG is a fun toy; these two, I will be buried with.

YMMV.

a M16 and Uzi is 99% of my MG needs.

Have you shot a 1919? moved one

I like the RR idea with various configurations readily available.
Endless amount of fun.

A 1919 is awesome too, but the M16 gives so much versatility.

I like 1919's but taking a belt fed to the range is like taking a group with you. The tripod ,cans of ammo and the gun add up to real weight fast.

Short of selling both and going for an hk sear with some hosts I'd say go for the m16. Big issue with the HK sear is the cost of the belt fed hosts(I've been wanting a g3k-b for mine and kinda thinking of a 1919 instead).

I would definitely get the M16.

Regarding SMG's:
While you have the UZI and M11/9, they are really best as open bolt SMG's.  Yes, I have closed bolt conversions for the UZI but the window to tune them is pretty limited and I don't think they run that smooth.
If you ever get into SMG competitions, you can shoot your UZI or M11/9 in the open bolt class and run the M16 in the closed bolt class.
However, I think the standard blowback 9mm M16 configurations suck in FA.
Fortunately, we have the new radially delayed blowback CMMG Guard that really smooths it out and I no longer have a desire to dump money into an MP5.
On that note, FM Products is coming out with a new mechanism which is probably (hopefully) also some kind of delayed blowback.
I also know of another MFG that will be releasing a drop on piston upper for the M16/AR15.
So much support and future developments going on for the AR/M16 family.

Regarding Beltfeds:
Some mentioned the Shrike/MCR which I have and runs great.
Another option is the Freedom Ordnance 9mm belt fed which I also have and also runs great.

Freedom Ordnance also mentioned the possibility of coming out with a 308 belt fed some time ago so who knows.

22LR:
I love FA 22LR and with the UZI and M11/9 you only have around 30 rounds max.  Fun is just getting started at 30 rounds. The Black Dog 50 rounders run great in my M16 22LR conversions.

I also have the belt fed Lakeside LM7 which mechanically works identically to the 1919.  No longer made but there is a discussion of a company selling them but I suspect it may be leftover LM7/Razorback parts vs new builds but who knows: https://www.ar15.com/forums/Armory/LithocoreX/23-491320/Again since it works just like a 1919, if you are also interested in the 1919 not just for being a belt fed but like understanding the mechanics, the LM7/Razorback may help scratch that itch to get a 1919.  I know it does for me....I get to enjoy having basically a mini 1919 plus:
1. shoot the cheapest ammo available
2. easily shoulderable
3. suppresses well
4. don't have a drag a tripod to range

So that is 3 belt fed options for the M16.

I think it also comes down to the type of person you are and if you are more into collecting than shooting.  Even with that point, if you don't have an M16, you should get one now.  Get the 1919 later if you really want more MG's vs more conversions.

For me it would be the colt m16.  While I own an m11 and love it, initially I couldnt afford to purchase the colt.  After playing around with my m11 for a couple years, I buckled down and saved what I can to own a colt.  Dont regret it one bit!

As it has already been mentioned, the options with an m16 is countless.

If it were me, decide if you want the lage offerings along with a reliable .22 conversion.  If so, sell the uzi and get the m16.  If not sell the m11 and get the m16.  I played with selling my m11 for the m16, but I ended up saving for 1 1/2 yrs then got the m16.

Good luck on your decision.

If you dont already have one, get it done!  Sounds like you a have a means to help fund the m16.  It will always go up in value, hell if you decide it's just not something you need to have or use a lot down the road, you will end up with more money after selling it.  Then you can get other mg's.  My .02.
