Yep, you read that right. $900 for an FDE Scar 16s. I went to my gunsmith today to have a few parts fitted and installed in one of my 1911s. He is attached to an indoor range and they sell the range rental guns for next to nothing. Example: FN 5.7 for $850, USP compacts for $500, Glocks for $250, etc. you gotta get there at the right time but there are some gems to be found. Like the one I found today.
So I'm waiting for him to finish talking to a customer and see the unmistakable Ugg boot at the bottom of the case on my right. Curious of course I ventured a look and thought it was a typo. $900. I looked several times away and back to make sure I wasn't missing a "1". Nope. No 1. So being a range rental, it's had some rounds on it. Surprisingly the internals look great but it needs a good cleaning. Certainly no safe queen but somehow no dings, scrapes or gouges. I put half down and pick it up on payday next Friday. I've already blown my gun fund for this whole year but I don't care. I told my wife she could make me sleep on the couch for a month. Hell, in the backyard. You don't pass on a $900 Scar. If someone will tell me how to post pics from imagur I'll post proof. |

Email me pics and I'll post them. I've wanted to add a SCAR 16 to my stable after getting my 17.

I can't say I would've had to think too long or hard about that.

@GuynamedDave what range is that? not that I want to poach it but I'm in Texas and always need some new stuff.
|
|
Did they say if they're replacing it with a new rental SCAR 16, or they just don't want to rent a SCAR anymore, or what? Just curious.
Heck of a deal OP! |

Shoot smart in Alliance. Always have great deals but this Scar is by far the best I've ever seen
|

I don't even like the SCAR but would have jumped ALL OVER THAT!

ITT
gallons of jelly. Nice score OP. I would have FO'ed too, even at the chagrin of wifey |

Now the question: do I keep it, SBR it, etc... or put it on the trading block? I have a 14" Bren and a 12" Larue/Spikes AR covering my 5.56 needs. Could certainly double the investment on the Scar. First world problems I guess.

Man, lucky you!
I'm really really hoping that my local range will put their 17 on sale for cheap when it's finished. They say they try to recoup purchase cost in rental fees and then sell on the used rack. Nobody knows what they get listed for though - one guy told me "this one...uh...probably $3000" but it wasn't the first BS answer he'd given me that day. The gun's in pretty good shape.... |
|
So. Picked up the Scar. Go to range to function check. Double feed. Every. Single. Round. WHAT THE FUCK?!?
I'm beyond pissed. |
|
Try different usgi mags. I wouldn't trust any range rental ones

Quoted: I picked it up yesterday and went out to my own range today with 6 usgi mags. All of the double fed on every round. Could this be a gassing issue? The gun has a 1 year warranty thru the gunsmith shop/range I got it from. Maybe I'll take it back and talk to them View Quote |

Gas rings on piston worn out?
Gas jet erosion? recoil spring worn out? Im just spit balling here. My 16s has been a champ. near 1200 rounds between cleaning or lube, no issues. BUT my round count is not even close to what your gun is, and for 900 bucks i wouldn't mind trouble shooting it. I bet its something minor. I would see what the smith has to say at the shop you bought it at since it has a warranty through them. But i would think he already has tried to trouble shoot it and couldn't figure it out and thats why it was sold for 900 dollars. Good luck and keep us posted. |

View Quote It has a 1 year warranty so monday I'll call the shop and see what to do next. My thought is if they can't fix it, it will go back to FN. Edit: just remember kids, if it seems to good to be true, it probably is. |

So I think I'm going to replace the gas jet and test again before sending back to FN. what size do I need for a 16" barrel? I would like to get the factory size as well as a size down to reduce overgassing

I thought I wont the gun buy awards with a $150 AK (wasr 10), but I think you destroyed me.
|

That's a fantastic score, even if it's broken IMO. The complete 10 inch barrel assemblies go for more than that.
You now know WHY it was priced so low. If you can get them to warranty it for you though, that's great. |

So I talked my buddy (mpresns here) and he said I should call FN first and foremost. Best case scenario, they replace the barrel assembly or rifle. Worst case, they get it running as is.
The gas jet seems stuck or fused in the gas block. Tried to get it out and it won't budge. Started stripping the tiny ass screwdriver slot. I'm guessing that's at least part of the problem. I'll post back after talking to FN and let you guys know what they say. |

PM me your address and I’ll send you a factory gas jet.
After PMM did the chop I don’t need it. |

I don't think you're in "if it's too good to be true, it is" territory yet. Nine hundred dollars for a $2500 rifle? You could replace a lot of stuff before that ends up being a bad deal.
