I came across a small number of m1a mags, most that were open i think had bw & si stamped. But some aint. The older gentleman i bought them from, rather his friend because he had passed, was a colonel in the army in korea & nam. Theres where i figure these are the genuine article. I thought of makin a short video of opening either all of them to prove them or clean off the dust from the packing & just go from there. What do you all think? I dont have pics of yet. Its been a while since ive posted pics on arf & not sure if i can remember how even when i have some. Anyway, thanks for any & alls opinions on this.

Do you mean M14 magazines?

The M1A (1971 - now) is a commercial copy of the US military M14 (1957 -1964 as the US service rifle, until now - maybe - as a specialist rifle)

They are still good to go, I have about 1/2 dozen or so unopened and another 10-12 I either opened and used or they were out of the box but never used. They all worked 100%. I have most of the manufacturers.

I think one of my already open wrappers has that wrote on it. Too bad it was opened up.

I snaggged a couple new in wrap off the EE for mine awhile back. Opened one and left the other unopened but I’ll open it soon.

Mag was perfect inside minus some of the packing stuck to it from 1964 lol

I don't believe [real] TRW mags ever existed and I have pretty much every manufacturer of them from back in the day. I might be missing one manufacturer but that was because someone made me an offer I couldn't refuse years ago.

crashland73, if you post photos of the wrapper markings or type that information here in this thread, I can check my records to see what contractor made the magazines. I don't have every M14 magazine contract, but I do have a lot of them.

My thought is always to sell the collectibles to the collectors and buy the contemporary equivalent to use with the proceeds and pocket the rest.  Unless it’s already well used.

When I was at Fort Hood in the early '70s we threw boxes of M14 mags in an area lake. Had I only known then what I know now.

The old timer I knew from the local club (now passed away) was a civilian employee garbage man on the local fort.  Lots and lots of surplus parts were dumped in the old post dump.   He did salvage a few boxes of M1 and M1 carbine small parts like springs, extractors, firing pins etc.

Sad.

While not directly related to the OP's question, I found something a little intriguing recently in the photo collection of the Springfield Armory National Historic Site. There is a Springfield Armory photo of a M14 NM with a ten round magazine. The photo shows the left and right side views with a 10 round magazine inserted into the rifle in both views. The caption is dated 6 April 1962. The TRW M14 NM rifles were manufactured after September 1962. So, the photo is of a Springfield Armory M14 NM rifle. The photo caption reads in part, "RIFLE, 7.62mm, M14 with NATIONAL MATCH APERATURE and 10 ROUND MAGAZINE."

So, my question is, was this 10 round magazine shown in the photograph manufactured at Springfield Armory? AFAIK, this is the earliest dated documentation of a M14 / M14 NM 10 round magazine.
