Dang great deal you got, OP! Seeing yours reminded me that I have the GI cleaning kit in the stock and it sure did add some weight to it, haha.

Any suggestions on an optic?
I am leaning towards a small red dot like the holosun AEMS. I plan on shooting the gun from 1-300 yards. Anything else I should look at before buying? |

Anything else I should look at before buying? You got a screaming deal on that rifle. I've looked at a couple of optics on mine. On my Tanker I have an ARMS 18 with an RMR on it, which I like the best. I did have an MRO on my SOCOM for a little while and it worked well, but I switched that out for an ACOG when I put the VLTOR IMS and rail on it. I also used the Basset mount like you have to mount the MRO. The MRDS sights seem to work well with the forward mount, you just need to be mindful of cooking the optic depending on if you keep the factory mount or go with the GG&G for forward mounting. Cogburn makes a good base that replaces your rear sight assembly, as does M14.CA. The Sage stripper clip rail is a low pro way to mount an MRDS without giving up your rear sight.

Well I bought a smith enterprises threaded front sight and I got it installed today.
I was really confused by their comment about adding a new gas cylinder lock. I did not buy it and everything looks good to me. Am I missing something?  I also added a few gas shims. Waiting on a nm spring guide which will be here Thursday. |

I did order an AEMS last night. If it doesn't work out, I will swap it onto something else.
The new op rod spring showed up along with the FA spring guide. I noticed the FA spring is about an inch longer than the stock spring. This gun has a very low round count. How many rounds does it take to wear out a spring? |

Minimum acceptable length on the GI spring is 15” so see how the one that came in it compares. ETA: I measured a Tubbs spring and a Fulton spring, and they were both 15 1/2” and the spring in my recent production Tanker was 16” with no wear on it. |

The UltiMak and M14.CA rails are pretty simple and good by all reports. The VLTOR is a little more involved.
Also, if you haven’t picked up your adjustable gas plug Fulton just started to sell a version. Look on their page under parts. It’s new, I don’t have any info on it other than that. |
