So grips and other improvements are readily available, but they drive the cost of ownership up. The SP9A1 Gen 1 (before they removed the second rod in the recoil system) is a good gun. The SP9A3 needs some work but the roller delay shows incredible promise if Grand Power would commit to fixing everything wrong with it. One thing Grand Power seems completely unwilling to do is to redesign their magazines or adopt a proven and popular magazine like the Scorpions. Slowly the aftermarket community is stepping up to offer magazine alternatives for the Stribog. I hope someone designs an upgrade that fills the void in the SP9A3 and SP9A1 Gen 2 which allows live rounds or spent cases to fall into the trigger group since Grand Power seems unwilling to resolve this problem. For a plinker, this isn't a major issue. For a defensive firearm or anything more serious than plinking it's a deal breaker for me. I keep my SP9A1 Gen 1 around because it seems to have been the pinnacle of the SP9's design in terms of reliability. |

| I received my three steel feed lip magazines from GunZoneDeals today. I haven't had a chance to shoot them yet, but they definitely appear to be more sturdy than the original plastic mags - which I have had major cracking issues with. One thing I do notice with these is a failure to drop free. One of the mags will drop free almost every time (~95%), another is about 50%, and one almost never drops free (<10%). I can live with this, especially if they are reliable and won't crack on me, but I'd like to hear if anyone else sees this with their Stribog. |

I was looking forward to the new mags but have decided to wait out a new version of the lower(scorpion/AR Grip/AR Trigger... please) and see what shakes loose. The current reviews of the metal lip mags just aren't giving me the confidence I need to drop another $350 into this platform. If they were released for around $20 each, I may have given them a shot. Regardless, I love this gun and have only had a single failure to feed in well over 2000 rounds. I've been using the seven plastic mags that I have and so far, so good. They've been loaded the entire time I've owned them. Hopefully that continues to be the case. |

Worst case, I’ll add them to the stack of first-gen mags I picked up and hope that GP offers a fix some day. I’ve only had one mag crack, and that was a 20 rounder that had never been fired, only loaded and left sitting. The 30s have been fine so far, but I haven’t put them through enough testing to say for sure - maybe 1000 rounds over 5 mags. The rest I left bagged, but it looks like I need to load them and let them sit. |

Hmmmm. I’m wondering if the delayed blowback is worth the reliability issues? Is the recoil so much better that it’s worth this hassle? Seems like version 2 ran just fine? |

I took my EVO to the range twice a few months ago (need to get it back out there) and had quite a few FTEs and FTL towards the end of each mag. This happened on factory mags and after market mags. I think I put about 200 to 300 rounds down range each time. Finally on my second trip, the last four mags had no issues. I’m wondering if the gun just needed to be run and break it in? That’s when I began wondering if I should look at an alternative PCC. I’ll try and get it out to the range next week. |

Seems like version 2 ran just fine? For me the short answer is no, it's not worth the investment in time or money. The first generation guns (before the removal of the second rod in the recoil system and before the introduction of the A3's recoil spring into the A1) ran fine with a variety of ammo without the need for special parts for different loads or special clearing drills to prevent malfunctions related to the removal of the second rod in the recoil system. The delay system only adds complexity and a failure point that didn't exist previously. I believe the entire driving force to implement the roller delay system is to get away from the stigma of being an APC9 clone, at least IMHO. |

Why is it my cheap Hi-Point carbine can handle any type of 115gr or 124gr ball but the Stribog A3 can't? How is it nearly every competitive product in the Stribog's class can easily digest a wide variety of ammo without requiring special parts for various loads? I don't buy for a minute that such ammo sensitivity is the result of "extreme precision". Sorry man. Edited to add: Holy shit, that video is shameful. So the problems people have found with the Stribog are the result of "paid shilling", eh? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense... What I see in that video is a desperate attempt to do damage control for GP. To what does GP owe such tremendous loyalty? |

Mac, The issues you had with the magazines, did they seem to get worse the more they were used (the binding and feed problems) or was is a problem from the start? I'll play with the mags some to try and figure them out. I've had similar problems with Colt 9mm mags with the binding midway through the magazine. I found a Colt 9mm 32rd spring will fit in the Stribog magazine. The Strigbog spring seems a little week compared to the Colt, I wonder if Wolff +5% extra power springs would help. |

I have been on the fence for a while and was hoping they would have had all the bugs worked out by now. The stribog with a factory 3-lug barrel, metal lower that takes AR grips and fire control groups with a proven reliable mag and the platform would be about perfect. |

Watching AC's video was sad. I was hoping he'd have a smooth review but hey we all have bad days. I've never seen him have a bad day but I get the feeling we've all seen the Stribog have a few bad days. He's getting rid of it! Damn, I'm still keeping mine but that review hurt. It was brutally honest and true, just like MAC and Mrgunsngear's videos on this weapon. Hopefully G.P. takes notes and quick action. I love my Stribog but with the way things are going in the US, I would hate to have a failure when I need it the most. |

Well, I am out. I have been patiently waiting for the Stribog SP9A3 to finally hit, but with all the problems it is experiencing as well as some "features" I feel are missing, I am going to just pass on buying one. A bit of a the things that I "personally" want out of a modern 9mm PCC. 1) Modularity with AR components. I feel this is an important feature with 9mm PCC due to the abundant amount of aftermarket kit to allow end user customization. 2) Mags, while I feel there is always room for improvement, I also think that utilizing a common and abundant "KNOWN" good functioning magazine made of metal, like a Colt SMG mag for example, would have been a smarter play. And must have LRBHO! 3) The charging handle should be non-reciprocating, ambidextrous and its placement SHOULD be located closer to the bolt assembly, not half way down the hand guard. 4) Barrel profile and hand guard length. In the case of the Stribog, either the hand guard needs extended or the barrel shortened. IMHO, there should be no more than a 1/2" protrusion of the barrel from the handguard, to facilitate muzzle device R/R. 5) No BUIS. Let the end user decide if it is needed and not design one that is integral to the gun. Good example of this, is the CZ Scorpion iron sight set. Adjustable, shielded and rail mounted and inexpensive. 6) Delayed blowback, with a means to adjust the "delay" for chosen ammo to be used. However, if the wizardry of a delayed blowback system can digest a wide array of different ammos, I would be a giddy as a school girl. That said, for me, a 9mm PCC will be run 100% suppressed. I am fond of 147gr HST for a defense load and 147gr FMJ for range work and plinking. I could go on, really, on what I think is the perfect 9mm PCC and why all the current and past offerings don't appeal to me. But I am sure no one cares to listen to the ramblings of a simple tow truck driver that likes to shoot stuff. |

But I am sure no one cares to listen to the ramblings of a simple tow truck driver that likes to shoot stuff. Not just you. I held out for A3 and now Ive shelved the idea of a PCC for a bit. I feel there is a huge market if someone could hit all those boxes. Able to be fired with stock/brace folded Some type of delay mechanism (not direct blow black) that runs well on a variety of ammo (including defensive ammo) suppressed and unsuppressed. Good mags that dont cost a ton Under $1k price point AR parts would be a bonus but not something I’m set on. MPX is close but it has its own issues and its a Sig and that comes with its own other set of issues. If I get impatient I may just end up with the Ruger charger. Hopefully PSA gets the mp5 perfected and out sooner rather than later. |

I echo MAC's sentiment about how well the A3 did with the exposed roller locking piece. I too expected it to be an issue and was surprised that it wasn't. The test seems to correlate to Aaron Cowen of Sage Dynamics experience with the Stribog in moderate round count without cleaning. Fouling inside the receiver, whether it's carbon or outside elements seem to be a major issue. The issue of tight tolerance/not enough clearance could perhaps be remedied by simply machining in some sand cuts into the bolt. While a different locking piece very well could have allowed the bolt to travel fast and hard enough to overcome the issue of the bolt hanging up in the gauntlet test, I suspect that would excessively increase muzzle movement/recoil while the weapon is clean which defeats the purpose of the delayed roller system. Sand cuts in conjunction with a redesigned magazine and different locking pieces could produce a very reliable yet soft shooting firearm, which only requires exchanging of the locking pieces under certain circumstances like the MP5K and the 80* locking piece. The A3 design has bugs, but also has potential. ![]() Gauntlet Test: Stribog SP9A3 Roller Delayed PCC |

Has there been any reliable delayed blowback PCC besides the MP5? The CMMG has extractor issues, the LWRC seems to have some reliability issues, the StribogA3 obviously has some issues. I know the TP9 has some sort of rotating barrel design, is that reliable? What else is there? |

I think it’s probably ammo cost....for me it is. I started a thread about the things I wanted as well and while the Wraithworks Warscorp9 is close, I’d like to see some type of delayed blowback....an MPX basically, without the proprietary action and mags. If the RDB from CMMG gets tweaked to perfection and could run in the Warscorp9 or similarly spec’d lowers I’m all in. I had an SP9A1 and still have the A3. I never had any issues with either of them with about 400 rounds through my A3 now. So it’s been great so far and I plan to SBR it with the ACR stock. I’m also trying to pick up an A1 bolt so I can run it as an A1. Just need the bolt as I have everything else I need. So I can make mine an A1 if the A3 ever becomes a problem. |

| I’m up to 200 rounds threw SP9A3, the last range session I run CCI 115 Blazer brass, Federal 147 HST, Speer GD 124 +P, GD 147 G2, 147 Winchester Ranger and everything run awesome. I have had no magazine issues with the old ones or the new magazine, no feeding issues. I picked up the RAE-744-X loader and it works great now you are only loading 10 rounds at time but it works! |

He told me to just email him pics of the broken mags along with my address. No need to send them the actual mags anymore. My mags arrived a couple weeks later. I do wish they would allow for some sort of swap with the newer steel lipped ones, but he said the policy right now is to only replace them with the same ones. I did ask how many times I could replace broken ones, and he said there was no limit. |

Fired a 30 round mag of Federal 124gr HST +P without an issue. Also ran some berry's 147gr RN with 3.7gr Titegroup without issue. These were all suppressed with a Griffin Optimus. This is a SPA3 with metal feed lip mags. I ran some 9mm major rounds through it as well. they can be found here. They had a little bulging in the brass and also kicked the brass very far. The truncated cone shaped hollow points didn't feed very well either, but it was only 1 or 2 failure to feeds in 60 rounds. I've tried these in a Blowback AR (no bulging, would not feed at all) and also a CMMG RDB (multiple case failures, brass ejects too early causing it to be unsupported part way down the case). All in all I am happy I bought it. It fed the the 124gr +p HST good and ejected normal. The Berry's 147 gr using 3.7gr of Titegroup worked perfect as well. These are subsonic so they will be what this gun mostly sees. I didn't bring my chronograph so I have no velocity data, was only testing for function. The little pop up iron sights were dead on. I plan on putting an eotech on it. |

I have had my A3 since late July and still have not had a chance to take it out for a number of reasons. Outside of that, I am still waiting for someone to produce an alloy lower that uses an AR FCG, AR pistol grip that uses Colt or Scorpion/AKV mags. I still haven't had any issues with the original mags for my A1 but it would be nice to have options. |

I still haven't had any issues with the original mags for my A1 but it would be nice to have options. This was a recent e-mail blast that went out from A3 Tactical: This email is just an update to the Scorpion mag lower for the Stribog. If you are getting this email it's because you requested info or provided your support for this product. If you didn't know, we are pursuing the Scorpion mag version first as it got the largest amount of requests. It just makes sense, if we can make it work, with CZ, Magpul, and PSA all making quality magazines. This path isn't the easiest however and will take some time to get figured out. The mag release and bolt hold-open features on the Scorpion are completely different and converting over to AR controls will take some time to get everything dialed in. So currently we have roughly 50 hours into the current model. We should have a printed prototype by the end of next week to start some testing. In this present design we have only addressed magwell dimensions, mag release, and AR controls. This first print will allow us to test AR grip fitment, trigger and selector fit and function, takedown pin fitting, and mag fit tolerances, as well as the mag release function and position. We basically just took this opportunity to design a new mag release for the Scorpion platform, then retro-fitted it into the Stribog lower. So when this is all done, you will be able to use our mag release or any other aftermarket mag release currently available for the Scorpion platform. Things that haven't yet been addressed are optimal mag angle, mag depth, last round bolt hold open, fire control group positioning, and overall appearance. Most of these will be addressed in the next round of modifications to the model, once we are able to test it. One last thing, we will not be using factory Stribog takedown pins. Instead, we will supply ILWT HK style pins with each lower. The factory takedown pin clips do not work well and are very difficult to design around. The HK style pin is a much better design, uses a more traditional clip and is actually lighter as well. Once I get the sample in and have a few days to test it I will send another update. Thank you, |
