I believe this uses AUS-8 steel. Has anyone noticed a difference in quality between the two?

My last SOG was a Pentagon and it was crap compared to the Tops and ESSE knives I have bought over the last couple years.
Link Apache Dawn TOPS

Tops Desert Nomad   I have this one and like it.

ESSE  6  I have a 4 and like it

I wouldn't buy any of the newer SOG knives. They used to be great knives, but now I don't even look at them.

You should check out the MACV-SOG reproduction knives made by Bark River.

More expensive, but damn.

Oh shit. I forgot about bark river. Nice!

Between seki and BRK which you think is better? The sog 2000s are going for the same new if you can find em.

ETA: found seki sog 2000 new for $200. bought it. Think I might still pull the trigger on that bark river. I had forgotten about them and they have a very stellar reputation.

If I'm not mistaken that is the older design correct? I bought mine in 1994, wore the finish off then polished it. Got it for myself for my first Christmas in the Marines. Passed it on to my son who is now in the Marines. Very tough knife that has survived many ill conceived uses and abuses. The new ones look gimmicky and anemic compared to the old ones.

Mine was like this one, same sheath too. I bought a Tigershark before those got hokey but the handle is not as hard as the SEAL.

The Bark River knife is made from 3V steel. The Wall knife is O1 and more expensive.
