I’ve always loved the Ruger no.1 but it seems like Ruger is slowly killing it off - little by little every year.
So does anyone here still hunt with theirs ?

Post pics of your no.1 if you got one.

Biggest lemon I ever bought.  Gradually learned through more research that 1 in 4 is great, 1 in 4 is ok, and 2 of 4 are crap and nothing can be done with them.

I had a standard in 300 win mag years ago. It was a really good shooter but, just didn’t do it for me. I had to move it down the line.

I had one in .45-70 gov't. It was decently accurate but frankly, the NEF Handi-rifle was just as accurate, and a hell of a lot more fun.

I have a 375 H&H magnum. Nice gun but can not get it to shoot better than 2 inches.

I love the No. 1 rifles but they're really best served in a big bore cartridge like 35 Whelen, 45-70, 375 H&H, 416 Rigby, etc.  I don't really see the point of them in smaller, faster calibers.

I split a mule deer buck’s heart in half with mine this fall. .25-06

Just saw a used Number 3 carbine in .45-70 at the LGS.  IIRC, it was unfired.  A single shot collector had already grabbed it up.  It was a rare edition, from what they said.

I’ve had two; a 223 that would vertically string pretty badly and a 7x57 that shot about 2 inches. I want to love them but I can’t.

Hit or miss. My former coworker had one in 6.5x55 Swedish and it shot fantastic. He took a few deer with it.

Have had a couple, they are hit and miss. Recently passed on a newer-manufacture heavy 22-250 that looked unfired. It really didn't feel quality like the 1980's era guns I've had in the past.

The Browning 1885, B78, etc line is a different story, I love them.

I have a No. 1 in 416 Remington Magnum that I got a few months ago.  Traded my Winchester M70 Safari Express in 416 Rem Mag for it.  I love the No. 1 but mainly in the big bore calibers.  The 416 Rem Mag is one of my favorite rounds and I really wanted a No. 1 in that caliber and had been waiting a while for the right one to pop up as it's one of my grail guns so I was picky about buying one.  I really don't ever buy used guns, but Ruger only made the No. 1 in 416 Rem in 2004, so it's not nearly as common as the other big bore calibers in the Tropical series and it seemed almost impossible that I'd find a unfired one.  One popped up on Gunbroker and the seller said it looked unfired, but still listed it as used.  When it got to my FFL I inspected it and the bore was beautiful and there were no brass marks on the ejection ramp or breech block.  So it was either unfired or only fired a few times.

I still have yet to shoot it but I'll eventually put a scope on it and it'll be my elk/moose gun should I go out west and hunt some larger critters.

I'm late to #1 appreciation but I've picked up two in two years.
1-A in .275 Rigby (7x57Mauser) and a 1-S in .35 Whelen.
I like them

Over the years I have owned three.

.243Win - never could get it to shoot better than 2moa.

.30-06 - shot about 1moa

7mm Mag - that thing couln’t hit the ground when dropped.

Beautiful guns. The luv was there but the luv wasn’t returned.  Sold them all off.

Probably the reason they are dying off.

It's really just hit or miss with the No. 1.  My 45-70 and .460 S&W No. 1s couldn't shoot worth a damn.  My 416 Rem Mag No. 1 is an MOA rifle.
