I saw a website that at one point sold used pushers for chalk rounds. Do any of ya'll use used pushers? Is there chances of them scratching or damaging the barrel?

Also, are zinc pushers hard or soft metal? Can they cause sparks if hit by bullets once they are down range?

Zinc is soft metal and non-ferrous so they have a low risk of creating sparks. You can re-use them many times- until the driving bands are worn out. I lose them or hit something hard before I get more than 3-4 firings.

10-4. Before you reuse them, do you do a precleaning of some sort to prevent embedded sand or grit from being on them?

I see your screen name, were you running a "booth" at the Big Bore Blast?

I give them a good brushing and don't worry too much about it. cleaner is probably better- I have a bunch of them and was going to run them in my rotary tumbler and see how that does- but I don't clean off the RTV if any- I let that roll and use an arbor press to slowly press them into a new case.

Yep- That was me. I can't wait to go next year. Already planning to donate a bigger prize for the 40mm shoot :)

I have been reusing them.  Brush the dirt off, remove any remaining nose cone (I need to use less superglue), and reload.  If there is RTV remaining, I just reuse it rather than stripping and adding new.

I have also started painting them florescent pink.  My range is a large hill with some trees and lots of leaves.  Painting them makes it easier to spot them.

I just use a soft wire brush. I used to clean them real well with a softer wire wheel on a bench grinder. But it's just not worth it when doing hundreds of them. I just focus on the drive bands as thats what makes contact with the barrel, and that is only if I visibly see dirt

Anybody got leads on used pushers out there.  Like to get 20 or so.

They aren't that expensive new (if you only need 20 anyway).

If Falcon doesn’t take you up on it, let me know. I could use about 25. Had my first “failure to perform” this week at the range. We just had rain and went 10/10 failure to burst on the chalk rounds. My hybrid 3D printed pusher with lead shot matrix just wasn’t heavy enough to break the windscreen in soft ground and they just plugged into the ground.

Thanks all ya'll for the replies. I'll try and shoot my zinc pushers where I have chance of retrieving them. If they get nicked by rocks and such, will the need to not be used again? I want to make sure i don't scratch up the bore/barrel of the 40mm.

10-4. I'm hoping to make it in 2026 as well. Before my son's 3D printer went down I started some trial prints of the Loose Change design. You've helped me via email with getting them straight. I'm learning how to work his printer and right when I think I have everything calibrated, it malfunction. Flsun.

I am a bit disappointed. I thought that my range trip last week would have me walking away with most of my pushers after I found them. I found 1. I did not realize how these chalk rounds would act at short ranges. WOW!

I invested in a metal detector for just that purpose. I find them from years ago to present. Plus I fire a lot of experimental items that can be reused as well. GROG

They can skip off and travel a ways. Sometimes you can tell general direction by a trail of chalk, but the pushers have a habit of disappearing.  Especially if you are by yourself and are trying to estimate where you saw one bounce to, and are searching downrange where everything looks different.

Thanks for the case.  I'm putting them to good use.
