I'd say it looks pretty darn good. I'm not much of a semi-gloss AR type of a guy though.

The 1911 is an old Wesson Dan Pruitt I traded for. The finish was almost gone in spots and I was bored one day. Damn thing alway shot great, now it looks as good as it shoots.

The grips are by VZ, I have them on two of my pistols. You can find more here

I recently purchased a Duracoat refinishing kit from Lauer Custom Weaponry. I got flat black and dark earth with the kit. I first painted the small parts black to a used Desert Warrior I had recently picked up. Then I decided to redo a TLE in dark earth with black small parts. I wasn't all that pleased with the color of the dark earth so I mixed a little of the black in to darken it up. However, it didn't actually darken it as much as it changed the tint  . Oh well, I can always redo it once again if I decide I don't like it  . It does match the Ranger green Gunner grips pretty good though...

Kimber TLE in dark earth/black:

Here's the TLE with the Desert Warrior and Warrior (with Brownell's Baking Laquer Coyote Tan frame) for comparison:

Here's link to a thread I started about my home refinishing:

Actually, it looks great. Iv'e mixed some Duracoat colors and then gone, WOW! that looks sweet.

Some pics of a .458 SOCOM that ReconRover and I just refinished.

I couldn't resist messing with them in photoshop.

More pics. to come.

ReconRover is headed to TX with it and promises to shoot feral hogs and post pics.

Tested - would like to see the pics of the hog casualties.  I'm seriously considering investing in a .458. Have seen your vids - thanks!  They are very helpful.

Here's my latest project - kind of a Night Urban Digital.  See my "help me decide" post for exact colors etc.  Thought I'd post here too so people could get one more idea..

Here's a Marlin 60 I did using KG gunkote OD and black.  The glossy look is due to my oily hands after assemby and subsequent rub down with a cloth. I "bondo'd" over the squirl and acorns on the wook stock before using alumahyde II dark earth on it.  You can see my other stuff on page 2 of this thread:

This is a great look and I love how the edges on the pattern were allowed to spray out and get fuzzy.

I saw pics of your rifle over in the AR-10 section and came over here looking for info on how you did it.  After finding your post about the straw and pine needles, you are making me want to try something similar - but with mesquite branches and palo verde needles.

My hat's off to all the artists out there.  I like those camo jobs where the gun disappears or doesn't have any shadows.  Cool.

My taste is boring in comparison as I'm looking for the blacks or dark grays.  I was thinking about a charcoal color, but have no idea what that would look like (and no, I wouldn't want to try to mix it).  If that isn't possible, I'll just go with matte black.  I am curious about the other versions of black that Duracoat offers - socom, combat, diamond, etc.  If some boring people like me could post pics of their drab arms, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Here's my latest project:

I had it finished with tan Norell's originally.  I had it up for sale and wasn't getting much interest so I thought I'd take it back to black.  I was able to blast the Norell's off without taking off the anodizing.  The Norell's went on smooth as glass and turned out great.  It's still up for sale but I'm not sure I'll bump the ad anymore, I'm really liking it now

I've been wondering how one of these paint type finishes would hold up on a revolver.

It looks like there may be a use for those old blue worn revolvers sitting on pawn shop shelves all over the country.

Looks great. I did a Remmy 700 in OD green and it was almost a satin finish. I discovered while doing the 2 model 10's I posted the pic of that..the OD green goes on in a shade of grey almost. I didn't realise that when I did the rifle and subsequently put a really heavy coat on. I was going to re do the rifle because it didn't match the color of the wheelguns. (Same owner) but when I told him he said he didn't care about the color as long as it was coated good.
I know I posted these before but..for comparison

BEFORE - with Lauer's Duracoat.  A2 receivers with right-side fire control markings welded over and receivers modified to XM16E1 specs.

Used one of those lowers and this A1 upper that had been previously "arsenal-refinished" and demonstrated considerable wear and scuffing, particularly on the carry handle.

Sent the upper and lower to Victor at U.S. Anodizing for Type III Hardcoat Anodizing in early XM grey.

AFTER:

Fine job!  Working on getting the parts together to send the second receiver pictured above re-anodized as well.

If I get a compressor and an airbrush after Christmas I plan to Norrell some shotguns I'm working on, too.

Doesn't hold a candle to Stickman's photo quality, but this is my first adventure using Norells.  I prefer the colors fading into each other as opposed to a pattern with stencils.  Used mostly tan and brown, with a few touches of OD green, considering the location the rifle will be used in (AZ desert).

being new to the site this may be of no use,but i can offer teflon based powder coating on aluminum parts for next to nothing if not free.the company i work for manufactures aluminum windows, doors, and storefront.it will stand up to temps of 300 degrees,we offer many colors.only draw back is that you will only be able to apply one color as NOTHING will adhere to the final finish.seems like the coatings you are using currently are along the same principles, strip, degrease, spray and bake.just a thought/offer

It's 100% Norells.   Regular stuff on all the metal parts and both grips.

Here's another one of mine.  KG gunkote using their cerakote product in foliage green, with glossy silver interior (for easier cleaning).  I did a black antiglare stripe similar to the pick one I did on page 2.  The dragon cartoon was done using one of my wife's craft punches and regular OD spray paint, just for kicks,  I intend to just let it rub off or get removed after my next cleaning.  The stock was also chopped about 1.25" shorter to fit me better.

Lauer custom weaponry ACU paint kit is what I used. There were template's in the kit but since this was the 1st time I ever refinished the gun let alone multi coated it I was impressed.

LCW part# are

Light tan #74
Gray green #75
Deep Gray green #76

You have to really pay attention preping the surface

1st degreasing
2nd Masking off area's you dont want DC on with 3M blue tape
3rd mixing the DC and hardner 1 to 10 ratio up to 1 to 14 ratio . I go 1-12 per Josephr's instrutions.
4th After I degrease I warmed them up a little(100deg) in the oven and take them out and spray.

I wait a few day's then applied another coat then repeat.

Sigh...
Nope.  No evil features so no...
flash hiders
pistol grips
grenade launchers
collapsable stocks
thumb hole stocks
in order to have removable mags.  If I pinned the mag in requiring tools for removal, I can have any evil features I want.  That grip actually works well, kinda like a traditional rifle feel.  It just look funky.  I might just hit it with the Alumahide but that stuff takes forever to cure. (weeks and weeks).  I'm happy with the way it turned out; it handles and shoots well.
