So a friend of mine bought a PTR .308 Pistol...the gun externally and internally looks almost brand new but when he took the handguard off he found an issue. The finish on the barrel...part of the barrel...is bubbled up and flaking off. The gun was sold as having only had a few mags through it while the owner was making a video reviewing it.

Any idea why it would be this way?

Those "few mags" that were shot through it were shot back to back really quickly

Heat caused that. Lots of heat.

It may have only been "a few mags" but they were fired in immediate succession. PTRs seem to have pretty nice finishes from an aesthetic standpoint, I doubt it came from the factory like that.

Probably had a sear pack in it at one time.

He wondered if maybe for the review they dropped in a sear pack and once the finish on the barrel went to crap they tried to cover it up...
