Who's got experience with an AE M24/Ops 3rd on a bolt gun?  All my Ops/AE stuff is AR centered, but Ron mentioning them a few pages back has my gears turning on project possibilities.

Pics?  Range reports?  Ideal barrel length without begin too long?  Is ADCO still the best for doing the contouring (in the precision bolt gun world)?

You know how it goes... dreaming up a fictional rifle that I can then use to rationalize buying a suppressor I have no gun for... which I can then use to rationalize buying another rifle I don't need.

I've posted several pics over the last 10 or so pages. I love mine.

It's long and heavy. I wouldn't go any longer than a 24" barrel. For a fun-gun I would try to go as short as possible. I want to build a 12" 6.5 grendel bolt gun contoured for it. Maybe next year.

The smith that built my rifle did my contour. It's nothing any competent smith couldn't handle.

Someone please put one of the direct thread gordy cans on a 20inch rifle please!
Also, if not out of bounds, what are they running for?

Well done!

For me the aem5 was my bucket list silencer. Just iconic. So grateful that I had the opportunity to buy one.

Very grateful to ADCO for hooking me up. Pending since 3-17

Very excited for it to clear

Hard to be a silencer guy without one

Thought you guys might find this comparison pic interesting.  Took it while fiddling with some mounts and new collars.  The middle one is a birdcage mount from Ron back in his Ops Inc days.  Right hand side is a current production ADCO birdcage purchased recently.

The brake is sitting on the crush washer as that's what I typically install them with.  The Ops flash hider came installed on some very thin shimming when I ordered it from HCS way back when.  Have not installed the ADCO flash hider on anything yet - looks like a washer would be a no-go and it would need thin shims also in order to maintain the same relative location of threading for the suppressor.

And now that I post this pic, I see an M4S peeking in off the left edge of the frame...  it's jealous, evidently.

I’ve had a CA MK12 barrel in the parts bin for a few years. Then I fell asleep at the wheel and did not buy a AEM5 when I would have. Now I got 6-12 months to get my shit together.  Let the clone games begin...lol.

I apologize if this has been asked before, anyone have specs on the Gordy can length and weight specifically?

For those who have experience with both the Gordy and the aem5 is having both a necessity for the Gordon rifle? I have the aem5 and am trying to justify getting the Gordy can. I know it ain’t cloning if it’s not the same. Just need the nudge.

I have both, AEM5 on my MK12 and Gordy on a 14.5. The Gordy is 100% worth it, it's silly quiet for a 5.56/.223. I haven't personally experienced a .300 Blackout yet but people have mistaken my Gordy for one on both indoor and outdoor ranges.

Ok, I always thought the AEM5/OPS 12 was the Gordy can. What's the difference between a Gordy can and a AEM5?

4" reflex on the Gordy and 2" reflex on the AEM5. The Gordy threads directly onto the 1/2x28 threads of a 14.5 barrel without a need for a muzzle device, and the Gordy is a bit (1.5"?) longer.

For mounting an M24 model can on a bolt gun-

How much meat do I need on the barrel profile to machine in the mounting taper (i.e. outer diameter of bbl at aft end of suppressor)?

Do I need a proper big boy M24 barrel profile to do it, or does it work with other "heavy" profiles like a Remington varmint style?

Flagging for @k31user  or @BigBore or @Shlouf

0.92” min per the AE drawings. M24 can is the same as the ae30 just more reflex length and different thread pitch

You need a M4 to AEM5 collar. SPR collar won't work on a M4 barrel without work.

Anyone know any nice rails that would provide a flush fit for a 16” SPR barrel?

Can the contoured area be bead blasted or should it remain raw (perhaps blackened/phosphated at most)?

Looks good!  I went with a Midwest Industries combat rail in 13.375" and a 16" SPR barrel with the Ops contour.  If my math isn't off, there should be about .1625 gap.
