It's not a clone, but took inspiration from the BHD movie gun using some newer parts. I used the 12.5" SS barrel and 2-piece collar that Ron sold last year. SUPER fun to shoot.

Forgive me if this has been asked before, but I am wanting to run an AEM5 on a 11.5 barrel. Any off the shelf barrels profiled correctly for this, or do I really have to ask Ron to make a M4 collar....?

I’m sure it was discussed a while back somewhere but a Spikes tapered gas block gives you the best chance on the shortest barrel. |

Question:
Just got my AEM5 out of Jail. Hurray So, I have a 12.5" barrel and an MK12 collar. There is no step for the collar, but to get 8.5 turns on my suppressor that leaves about 1.5" gap between my collar and my gas block. I was thinking of running some pvc pipe to fill that gap so my collar doesn't slip down when tightening the suppressor. This way, my collar would essentially be backed up against my gas block ensuring that it doesn't slip. My collar is tightly fitted to my barrel. I used metal Feeler Guages to get rid of any looseness and made sure there were no gaps. Theoretically, could this setup be run? |
|
|
[#15]
In my opinion, the words PVC pipe and suppressor mount probably don’t belong in the same sentence. Avoid the risk of making a costly and, more importantly, time consuming mistake.
I’m sure Ron will be along soon to offer some options. Originally Posted By star_fox_64: Question: Just got my AEM5 out of Jail. Hurray So, I have a 12.5" barrel and an MK12 collar. Where is the best place to buy the Ops brake and m4 collar? New, retail. Please don't say Charlie.
Does it matter what's under any suppressor (especially AEM5)? Does it matter if it's a brake or FH? |

Steve from Adco has stated multiple times the FH reduces accuracy when compared to the brake. I've never observed this myself, at least no worse than what I could chalk up to a bad day at the range (too much caffeine). |

I know this question has been asked a million times so I apologize in advance but I can never remember what’s what. Should I use a crush washer or shims to time the brake?
My brake times up to about 930 hand tightened with the crush washer. I know you don’t want to over torque. Is this acceptable or should I just use the shims that came with? Thanks all! ETA: Whats the proper torque for the AEMB? |

I shoot for about 11 o’clock to get to 12 o’clock timing of the thinner spline with a crush washer. Slightly precrushing a crush washer in a vice can be helpful. Torque is somewhat relative, but an 11 o’clock start should get approximately 20 ft-lbs or so, and don’t forget a dab of green or blue Loctite with clean threads on both the barrel and brake. You don’t want to over torque, not just for accuracy reasons, but the splines can deform and then you’re SOL. There were crush washers of recent that didn’t crush evenly. |

In the newer brake and collar sets there should be a thicker shim that takes the place of the crushed washer. Add the thinner shims as needed to get the appropriate timing. |

Thoughts on getting this barrel for my BHD lookalike?
Centurion 12.5 lightweight This is one of the few places I've been able to find that will install a FSB for you. Would require a custom collar for my aem5. The site says "Lightweight profile is Government profile under the handguard and step down to .680 ahead of the .750 gas journal." I'm between this, cutting down a 14.5" m4 profile barrel, or finding another 12.5" barrel and getting a FSB installed on it. Also, finally got a rifle for my AE30 and just got the rifle back from profiling. Will get a pic today. |

I don't think the barrel diameters matter too much if you are calling Ron for the collar, he will do whatever measurements you provide. Do you know if Centurion has the FSB's for a1 or a2 uppers or only flat top? That looks like a good option to ensure the FSB is aligned correctly, and get a bad ass barrel that will last most forever.
