Being that our forum is kinda slow, I thought I would start a new thread for guys to add to. You can add as much as you want, if you go shooting on the weekend, take some pics and post'em up. I've been thinking of putting this up here to get the forum to pick up a little and maybe bring some other members in that have .50's but don't post much here.
So, feel free to add to this thread, leave a little story about where you were while shooting your. 50 also.  Me and my son were at the range this morning. |

Very cool! Looks like you guys had a great time. Very jealous of your range by the way! I wish I had somewhere to shoot like that in southeast Virginia!

Yeah, that's what I love about living out west, lots of open space to shoot. We've set up targets out to 2000 yards for our .50's, 408 Cheytacs and other large caliber stuff out in the desert.
Its awesome to watch through your scope or spotting scope as another shooters round goes down range, you can see it go all the way to the target. That and you can call the shots for them so that they can adjust for the next round. This is an old picture but one of my favorite, 5/8" plate that was out at 1000 yards if I remember correctly. Look closely.

Nice penetration from 1000 with only a 29" barrel. Any make it through?

Yeah, plenty went through.
The best reason for those getting stuck is they had to be reloads and didn't have the same amount of power as regular surplus. |

Did some loading this weekend, waiting on the ranges to open up. This first pic is a regular 50 BMG round loaded with an 890gr lead projo, done in smurf blue.
    The second is the 50 BMG and 50 DTC together. If the ranges don't open soon, gonna have to make a trip to the desert so that we can test out these new projos. |

Got out with my M82... Welded 2 railroad tie plates back to back to make a 1 inch plus sacrifice plate for AP.... This was the test with an API round... Did not penetrate all the way through, which was the intended purpose.

I have to ask, what is your load with those cast bullets? I have the NOE 890gr mold, haven't coated them yet, but I found some Barney Purple :)

Did some at 215grs and some at 220grs of Reloader 50, see what the better load is. Loaded out to 5.45" there's about a half an inch of the projo seated in the case.
Just have to wait for our overlords to open things up so that we can get to the range and shoot them. Hopefully they'll shoot well, for some reason most lead rounds don't do that well in the .50. |

Cool, I don't have any Reloader 50, still using the last of my H50BMG powder. If I can get 1 to 1.5 MOA out of them I will be happy, just plan to use them for fun out to 300 to 400 yards.

When calibers over 50 were being developed they found standard copper jacketed lead bullets did not hold up to the high centrifugal forces generated by the larger diameters. This is why 20mm and larger projectiles are made from steel and use softer running bands to engage the rifling. Using straight lead in a 50 could see the bullets distort or fragment. Just a guess. |
