I have since shortened the handle on that Forster, also.

Here's one I put together recently - Gladiator bench on sale from sears, Wall Control backboard, generic light from Lowes... Bolted to wall studs plus a bunch of bullets, etc on 2 2x8's underneath - it doesn't move. Played around with height but 39" seemed to work best with both presses, standing when loading. 1050 is mounted normally but I used nylock star knobs on the 550 Strong Mount so it can easily and quickly be removed if I need a bit more room on the bench for working on long rifles, etc.

I've had good success using the Sterlite 6qt's, usually 1.99 from Target... Clear with the same type of latch as the KIS, although maybe not as strong. But they've served me well for storing brass. Loaded rounds go in mil cans or magazines :).  |

Not quite done yet. Need to add a plate for the trimmer/swager/etc. for quick changing.
Used two milsurp field kitchen cabinets with a 25" deep hard birch butcher block counter top from Menards that I clear polyurethane finished. Bought the Inline Fabrication quick change system and retrofitted both of my SDB's with the 38 Special spent primer mod. Really loving the space I have now, makes reloading much more enjoyable when the bench is totally dedicated. Next purchase is definitely an XL-650!!

That looks like my new bench, I had to do a double take. Looks the same, right down to the toolbox beside the bench. Looks nice! I decided not to stain/seal/coat mine (for now). I was able to finish the four drawers, get the shelves done and install one set of the Rockler T-Track; all I need to do now is cut some drawer handles and the bench will be GTG. I'm still reading my reloading manuals and want to learn more about the order of operations, differences in manufacturer's brass, etc., before I give this a try. I also need to cut mounts for the press and trimmer to fit the tracks, and make a door for the manual scale to sit on. Hey, I may not know what I'm doing, but at least I look decent doing it. This is a picture of my old bench. I was trapped in suburbia for 13 years and had this sandwiched between the trash cans and the paint locker.
I had my Rock Chucker, my Dillon XL650, and my RCBS Trim Pro II Power case trimmer all mounted on here. Overall I had about 8 square feet of work space to use, needless to say, things got a little tight space wise and it was sometimes more than a chore to rearrange stuff enough to get started on a batch of ammo. 
Last March we escaped suburbia for the wilds of NE Texas. Part of the house hunting was looking for a suitable outbuilding / shop. I ended up with a detached 24x30 shop after everything was done. Just a bit of an upgrade for the new bench, I went from about 8 square feet of workspace to right at 22 square feet. Complete with pegboard, akro bins, and real cabinets that my wife scavenged from the Habitat for Humanity store in the Metromess. 
The bench is bolted to the wall I put in, the wall is anchored to building steel as well as anchored to the slab. The top is a laminate of two pieces of 3/4" plywood and a piece of finish grade 1/4". One coat of stain prep and five coats of polyurethane for all the exposed work surfaces. When my wife and I were laminating the top we had over 500#s of kettle bells, dumbbells, and plates on it, so I don't think it's going to move. I've got a bit more work to do. I've got to cut and finish some bases to mount the case trimmer, Dillon swaging tool, a vise, and a few other tools. I'll set some T-nuts in the bottom of the bench top and use hand knobs to bolt down my tools as I need them. That way I can keep my work area from getting cluttered back up. I'm also building a rolling cart/shelf for under bench storage. Most of my bulk bullets and brass will get stored down there. Now to just get caught up on reloading what we've shot and I can start building another bench for other projects. Semper Fi |

Some great looking set-ups in this thread, I present my megger beginnings and look forward to any and all advice as a 100% new reloader.
I am looking at either a Dillion 550 or 650 and this is my current layout, my base cabinet's are 25"x72" and I will use a 36" solid core door ripped down for the top, how much over hang should I allow?

Hmmm, sorry dryflash! I had seen other type posts and seeing as I have the door ready to cut and install I would then have a "bench" photo to share.

Few upgrades - added Inline Fab mounts for the 550, coax, and Lee bullet puller. Everything seems good, the COAX might be a bit high - the frame is at a good level, but the lever is up there :). It's a low volume press so will just try it out and see how it goes...
Also not bench related but added an MBF and handheld inspection video camera to check powder on the 1050 as well - more details in the 1050 upgrades thread...

Ordered IF storage plates for the QD plates - somehow it escaped me to order it when I bought all the other parts. Also trying to plan/measure out for their wall rail setup as well. Moved into new house and finally got the reloading area set up and running ammo. Ran a couple thousand of 9mm to restock what was shot while bench was under construction and set up the Dillon to run 223 now. Ran about 50 rounds to do an OCW work up for a new rifle. Wanted to make the bench and area bigger but will have to wait until the basement is finished and I carve a more permanent space for my shooting and reloading addiction. I tried to keep everything adaptable the only thing permanently fixed to the bench is the Dillon press, everything else is on plates or backers so they can just be clamped in place depending what is needed for the task at hand. |

Part of the house hunting was looking for a suitable outbuilding / shop. I ended up with a detached 24x30 shop after everything was done. Just a bit of an upgrade for the new bench, I went from about 8 square feet of workspace to right at 22 square feet. Complete with pegboard, akro bins, and real cabinets that my wife scavenged from the Habitat for Humanity store in the Metromess. http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a64/dave5339/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20161124_155316_zps6gtssuxt.jpg The bench is bolted to the wall I put in, the wall is anchored to building steel as well as anchored to the slab. The top is a laminate of two pieces of 3/4" plywood and a piece of finish grade 1/4". One coat of stain prep and five coats of polyurethane for all the exposed work surfaces. When my wife and I were laminating the top we had over 500#s of kettle bells, dumbbells, and plates on it, so I don't think it's going to move. I've got a bit more work to do. I've got to cut and finish some bases to mount the case trimmer, Dillon swaging tool, a vise, and a few other tools. I'll set some T-nuts in the bottom of the bench top and use hand knobs to bolt down my tools as I need them. That way I can keep my work area from getting cluttered back up. I'm also building a rolling cart/shelf for under bench storage. Most of my bulk bullets and brass will get stored down there. Now to just get caught up on reloading what we've shot and I can start building another bench for other projects. Semper Fi Nice, and welcome to NE Texas |

Wow! There's a bunch of "C" personalities in here. I've never seen such clean and neat reloading benches. Mine looks like a disaster in comparison. But I am getting inspired to build a new one for 2017.
What are your thoughts on building a bench tall enough to stand while loading? At my current bench, I sit on a stool like many of the ones pictured here. I'm thinking about standing just to help remain alert and so I won't get stiff while loading 500+ rounds. This is a pic thread, not a comment thread. dryflash3 |
