Well, with the ATFE change for state-to-state movement, it becomes feasible to carry my SBR next time I visit another free state. So, use a rifle case, you schmuck...but I don't want that, I want what is essentially a backpack that I can stash three or four days worth of normal vacation stuff AND an assembled 30-inch long SBR. Collapse the stock and it goes to 27 inches. Any suggestions? No, not playing SHTF scenario - I do have some friends in other states who shoot and like to go to the range, plus carry in and out of hotels along the way without causing stupid undue alarm. We must be living parallel lives because I'm about to build an SBR for travel and also possible use on Church security detail. Need a very discrete way to haul it around. I was thinking about some type of backpack in a non tactical color with sports logos maybe. Perhaps a tennis racquet case? I had thought about getting a Zastava M92 and making that an SBR with a folder. Could get that as short as 19". But, I already own several ARs so it's just a matter of installing a 10.5 or 11.5 barrel and of course getting the required paperwork. As far a shooting is concerned, I don't really care for AKs although I understand and appreciate their function and capabilities. |

I travel the same way and do the same thing when I visit friends, but I don’t keep everything in one bag. My rifle and range gear are separate from my everyday shit I travel with. Either separate the upper and lower, install a LAW folder, or build something that’s designed to fold. Unless you plan on carrying a full ruck with you all day, anything that’s designed to carry that will stand out. I have an older gen Vertx Overlander pack that I use when traveling light or when I need to transport around people, or I use a smaller Pelican case when packing more gear with everything broken down inside. It looks more like a big camera case than a weapon case. Even a simple tote or duffle bag type setup would work without drawing undue attention to yourself. Pics of the Vertx bag of when I carried my BRN-180 for traveling.

I can tell you there are a lot more options now than there were 20 years ago. I have one from Noveske which I’ve used for years. It gets used more for my air travel carryon more than anything else (without gun stuff, obviously). Going to a barrel shorter than 10.5” will really open up the options for you. For anything under 10.5”, I’d recommend going to .300 BLK, as it remains effective, while a 5.56 really drops off with the stubby barrels. I’ve used a triangle shaped sling bag from 5.11. Mine is black but they also made them in sporty non-tacticool colors. A 10.5” upper can be crammed in there but it’s really a bit too large for that pack. It works great with an 8.5” upper.

I have this triangular 5.11 Sling bag that they don't appear to make anymore that will comfortably take a CZ Scorpion or a Suppressed MP5k (AP5-P). The sling, which would be in front, has a pouch on it for a pistol, though it's got to be at least a compact, not a full size. I've used this for discreet-ish movement, but I don't put anything in there but the gun. The knock on it is that while it doesn't really scream 'gun', it is kinda weird so it does draw more attention than a normal backpack would. (Probably the sheeple wouldn't notice) That won't fit an AR, though. My go-to for that is the old Wilson Tennis Racket bag. They'll at least fit a 10.5" AR or a full-length AK with a folder. Underfolder works better because it's not so fat, but side folder works fine, too. |

My Savior Specialist Covert Single Rifle Case was delivered RIGHT before I had to leave for work, but I had a very quick chance to look it over. It is NICE...with the TAM black finish it looks a lot like a slim garment bag, and what I could see very quickly was it looks very well built. When I get the opportunity I will see just how well it works in the real world.

Thank you for these reviews of the Vang Comp chair bag! I’ve always wondered about it, but they’re proud enough of it that it wasn’t worth spending the money and taking the risk of getting junk. FYI, it is still in production though not always in stock. I live in a very politically divided state and travel a lot. Post-Vegas, hotels are a lot more jittery. Leaving stuff overnight in a vehicle invites theft. Disguised cases are always high on my list. |

So, I finally got some time to take a real close look at this Savior Equipment Covert Rifle Case...and so far, color me impressed. First, that color scheme doesn't scream GUN, more like GARMENT BAG! Something worth pointing out - we usually convert big enough boxes to target backing...  But what if the box IS the target? This was a very cool extra from Savior.  The same TAM color scheme is carried on throughout almost anyplace that isn't MOLLE/Velcro. The PSA website said something ridiculous like one of 50 made...yeah, OK, "collector-grade" luggage...but it's still very cool. Anyone who did LandNav will wanna break out a compass and protractor to navigate that topo map...made you look again, didn't I?   The middle divider unsnaps from those solid snake head buckles, and the other side is just MOLLE Velcro. Also, the divider panel is attached by Velcro and can be removed.  Everyone is saying, "BUT DOES THE DAMN GUN FIT?!? Yes, yes, it does. With the stock in a comfortable setting the over-all length is 32 inches long, and fits perfectly with a 30 round magazine installed. Do note the cheap flashlight mount slid right over the muzzle protector...which is also removable. All the straps are moveable, as well.  But that thing is WIDE with that light installed, surely it won't fit! Well, yes, it does, however, I will probably travel with the light removed. This is the bottom end right where the muzzle protector and light are inside, completely zipped shut, no problem.  The outside pouch folds open flat as well, with a couple of zippered pouches. CZ P-10S included for scale.  A pouch at the top seems small, with slots for pens and such, I am assuming, an admin style pouch as it were.  There is a concealed Velcro sealed pouch right behind the front pouch and inside is a Velcro pad to attach a handgun holster, and it could be a LONG one, that inner pouch goes all the way down. I wonder if it would hold a Mare's Laig...or, imagine producing an 1858 New Model Army .44 to confront an evil doer...  Strap side. Note the three different grab handles in addition to the backpack straps.  This extra-long Velcro sealed pouch is made to hold the backpack straps when removed but could be used for all kinds of things.  Straps stowed - look carefully at the right side and you will see the clever little tunnel that holds the bottom straps and buckles.  Over all, 9.5 out of 10 so far...why only 9.5? Zippers are hard to move. Maybe they will smooth out over time, we'll see, but right now I fear to break the things while zipping, gotta go slow. The general feel to this bag is quality. I am no luggage expert, did a lot of my early moving with a sea bag after all. My current "luggage" to go traveling with is a Condor backpack, which is REALLY low brow...but works. This Savior Equipment bag feels superior in materials, attention to detail, assembly, the whole nine yards. Now, to find some morale patches - you DID notice the big Velcro patch at the bottom of the front for morale patches, right? But I need some that scream, "there ain't no gun in here!, I don't like guns, and all I own is cheap junk that ain't worth stealin'!" | I have two SBR’d lowers with Law folders that I travel with and either a 10.5” 5.56 upper or a 8.5” 300blk upper. Generally keep it in a pelican air case until I get where I’m going and then into a backpack. Usually have a K can for the 5.56 and a griffin sportsman on the 300. |

It turns out the guitar was an MP5. Vang company chair bag has closed cell foam sandwiched between the layers of cordura nylon. It hold its shape very well. As long as you dont have the little spring clip things on the string pulled too tight it is very easy to draw from. At least with my 870 that has express sightsband a side saddle. |

That's the thing - I don't wanna apply for permission...I am an Arizona cowboy, we are used to unregulated open carry and Constitutional carry...applying for the King's permission is alien to us, so this change would make things more fun. If they didn't, I'd just use a regular rifle, no big deal, but since I have this little darlin, which I did just test at 100 yards from the standing and tagged that steel, (the three holes in the target stand wood were not from the same day...seriously), repeatedly, shame not to use it.
I think this Savior case will work just fine, especially when we have to stop for the night at a hotel, (no more Motel 6 in El Paso, never again), in and out without raising eyebrows. Thank you all for some great suggestions! |
