After fondling my 3, I decided on the UTX85 for an EDC pocket carry. In other words. Just spent an additional 258.00 for a black body & drop point blade. |

This thread has convinced me I need a UTX-85 S/E but I'm gonna hold out for an OD with stonewashed or an apocalyptic blade finish.

FWIW, I read earlier in this thread about poor customer service @ Microtech. My recent experience was very good, just to provide perspective.
I broke a small piece off the tip of my UTX-85 doing something stupid that would have wrecked any knife. I filled out a request for service ticket on their website asking if I could send it in and *PAY* for them to fix the blade, since I broke it. They repaired it, sharpened it, cleaned it, and returned it within a week of me sending it off, and didn't charge me a nickel. I treat that UTX-85 like a tool. |

Right now I use the 85 for work, the SE Troodon for fishing and hunting, the DE for Saturday night and the UTX-70 for Sunday mornings. View Quote Must have been a fire fighter at some point. Nice! |

Does anyone know if there will be any other finishes released fir the SOCOM alpha? The black and stonewash is available now but that’s hands down my least favorite color combo. I’m looking for the part serrated spear point in almost any other color other than black and stonewash lol

Quoted: Yeah, settled might not be the right word. It was certainly a bit more $$$ than a utx-85. Why are the Troodons more expensive than ultratechs? View Quote Troodons have a lot more milling involved. The action also seems more finely tuned but I don't know if that is just my imagination. |

Now that Remoil is difficult to find, would Breakfree CLP be an acceptable substitute to lube the MT OTF’s?
|
|
[#34]
I don’t see why it wouldn’t. All it needs is a drop or so in the blade guide/groove. Open and close it 10x, and hit it with compressed air.

View Quote @fokkfess When I emailed Microtech about the Rem-oil shortage they were adamant that a super thin oil is used. I would look into using Hoppes 9 aerosol lube rating oil, it’s just as thin as Rem-oil. IMO, CLP is a little too thick most likely for this application |

Quoted: Nice - so the combat troodon is roughly the same dimensions as a 1911 magazine? Good choice on the TRS, too. I’ve carried one for years now. Place holder for incoming Combat Troodon.
I was playing with my friends CT Marifone and was highly impressed. Along with his Marifone 85 and 70. Nice knives. But I'm currently a poor. Normally EDC a BM Phaton OTF given to me or an 810 Contego and occasionally a CRK Uzizizizziizfjif something or other. So this CT will be a bit different! |

Quoted: copy paste from GD Reiterate, not thrilled on how dull it is. Got my Combat Troodon in today, first Microtech. Embarrassingly dull for a $500+ dollar knife. Not impressed. Action is incredibly difficult to retract, hopefully it gets a little easier. My collection of folder has grown a bit. Before you say anything GD, the 810 is the only BM I purchased https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51300275499_476927cb9d_k.jpg View Quote Dang id be pretty mad also getting a dull knife from them. Anyone send the MT in for a reduction in force it takes to retract more than deploy? When I send it in I would almost like them to idk swap out springs or something. It's gotten eraser with oil, but not there yet. Need more finger strength apparently.

View Quote I've never had an issue with quick deployment and retraction, but seems a lot of people I let try my knives do. I think a lot of people lack dexterity and strength in thumbs these days. They are pretty stiff springs. Just use it and see if it loosens or email Jason at microtech and see what he says. |
