At almost $2k MSRP for the standard stock model I don't think I see them taking a big chunk out of anybody's sales. For that type of money you just add will buy the M4, unless you want the more modern lines. I would buy this model over the 1301 because I'm a Benelli fan at heart but for the little bit I use a tactical shotgun the A300UP is plenty. Eta. In the comparison chart I see they list this new model as duty rated instead of the combat rated like the M4 and the gas system must not self regulate like the M4. I would have rather seen them start making LH M2s again over this. |

From Benelli The Benelli M4's Auto-Regulating Gas-Operated (A.R.G.O.) system remains the combat-proven benchmark within the Benelli tactical lineup, trusted worldwide for its durability and reliability under extreme conditions. The Benelli M2-G1 introduces the innovative Rear Piston Operated (R.P.O.) system, engineered to occupy a unique position in the tactical shotgun market. Drawing on proven Benelli engineering, the R.P.O. system incorporates rearward gas collection, dual self-regulating pistons, and an isolated recoil spring housed in the stock. By collecting gas closer to the chamber—where pressure is greater and combustion gases are cleaner—the system operates in a cleaner environment than traditional forward-mounted gas systems. As the comparison illustrates, the M2-G1's R.P.O. system reduces fouling exposure, separates critical operating components from heat and debris, and minimizes maintenance without sacrificing reliability. The result is a cleaner-running, gas-operated tactical shotgun designed for smoother cycling, greater durability, and consistent performance through extended shooting sessions. |

You have to give Beretta and Benelli kudos because when Remington went belly up they charged hard and fast filling the void and more. Mossberg although descent guns will never compete with B&B. The bar has been raised and 2k for a shotgun has become baseline. But in the past I bought several Beretta shotguns including two Teknys Gold, 391’s, three A400’s, two Xplor for my kids and the early Extreme for My Florida condo, all flawless. More recently I bought a 687 two barrel set trigger crapped out past warrantee, newer Extreme plus back to Beretta twice, Benelli nova back to Benelli and SBE back to Benelli. Just received a roll pin that was missing from a 28 A400 I bought a few weeks ago. When they work they work great. Oh I forgot I have two 1301’s no issues at all. So it’s been hit or miss. But all in all I shoot the shit out of my guns. Much more than the average person. Looking into my glass ball I see Benelli fan boys gobbling up this new offering. Lighter than the M4 and looks sleeker and more Modern. Marketing trumps all. |

| What marketing genius decided to confuse “Benelli M2” by adding a gas operated version to the previous recoil operated M2? Was the designation “M5” taken? Would that suggest that the M4 is now obsolete, contrary to narrative? Or at least no longer the latest and greatest? |

Reminds me of Springfield with the Ronin Operator. After decades of having Operator denote a railed pistol they just shit out a pistol sans rail and call it an Operator. Morons. Since Beretta and Benelli are owned by Beretta Holdings you see more crossover between the two companies. This is sure to continue. Right now Beretta dominates the sporting clays market. They do it by offering O/U shotguns at different price points. Same with hunting autos. Beretta has the A400 line and the A300 line. Decent guns at different price points. And Benelli has the SBE and M2 line. Same concept quality guns at different price points. So between Beretta and Benelli if someone want a duck gun they have a good chance of getting the sale. They just did the same thing with tactical shotguns. As far as Turkish guns are concerned they will sell to people who can’t afford a B&B or don’t want to spend the money. I was in that boat for many years. I would love to see a comparison of tactical shotguns vs sporting guns sold. Would be interesting. |

Mossberg has pretty solid customer service for a much easier to obtain (and less expensive) domestic product. I won't say Mossberg is "better", just less-expensive and easier to source with a well-established domestic footprint. I recently SBR'd my Aftershock 990 SPX and must say, it's been solidly reliable and great shooter. Yes it does and the cheapest but most effective marketing is giving social media influences a copy to do the advertising for them It's okay to evolve, innovate, refine and improve. The prices are fucking rediculous, but considering what I paid for my Beretta 1301 Mod 2, I can also recall I paid a healthy sum for my first Benelli, an M1 Super 90, which I've had for over 20 years. I'm not even a shotgun guy but I really love them ![]() ROCK6 |

Inertia M2 Tactical is a declining sales product and was on its way to being discontinued (my opinion). How do you improve sales of the inertia M2? Add features that are already available on the Turkish clones like enlarged bolt release, MLOK handguard etc.? It will still lose out to sales to the more than 50% cheaper Turknelli product. The only play left in my opinion was to update/reinvent the Benelli M2 operating system to a "budget" version ARGO gas system and by not so subtly borrowing on the combat legacy of the ARGO system and the historical legacy of the M2. This maintains the premium brand and product model status/numerical sequence without undermining the M4. The average consumer would assume an M5 to be better than a M4 simply due to numerical nomenclature which would require a larger marketing budget to sort out. M2 < M5 < M4 vs the more simple to understand M2 < M4 The consumer won't quite get a Benelli M4/M1014 but will get a reliable and affordable derivative of it without having to assume the risk of buying a Turk ARGO clone. |

Personally I don’t think Beretta or Benelli gives a rats ass what the Turks sell. They are the face of sporting O/U’s world wide. Are there cheaper yes. Are there more expensive and better guns yes but the DT11 out sells everything. When you are Beretta Holdings you crush the competition. Go to Rich Cole’s shop in Naples Florida and watch 10 to 12k dollar guns fly out the shop. Between the 1301, A300 patrol, M4, and the new M2 they now own the tactical field. |

Benelli is comparing the M4 and M2-G1 to “Competitor B” in a table on this page proporting to show the advantages of the new gun. https://www.benelliusa.com/resources/rpo-rear-piston-operated It’s pretty obvious that they’re trash talking about the 1301, and funny because Beretta and Benelli are owned by the same company. Dad, Billy’s being mean to me again! Add me to the list of being confused why they didn’t call it M5 or even M4-G1, since it’s so far from the inertia driven M2 (never got the M2 designation myself since it seemed the same gun as the M1). I think the target demographic is the 1301, not the Turkish clones. Another $2k Benelli isn’t going to stop anyone from buying a much cheaper clone, plus it’s barely cheaper than the M4. |
|
I think it’s simple. B&B want your money. They will make so many different models you will buy a B or a B. That’s all it is. Getting your money. And I believe it’s working. And now Beretta Holdings owns 25% of Ruger. Remington went tits up and Beretta filled the void and then some. And even if someone brought Remington back no one is looking for 870’s and 1100’s made out of steel with wood stocks. Well a few but not many. But within a year Beretta has convinced every duck hunter that you can’t kill duck without a 3k plastic shotgun the AX800. 20 years ago 1100’s were 500 bucks. Then ten years ago Beretta automatic’s were 1k+ and then last year a duck gun is 3k. And guys are snapping them up. |
Garandthumb posted a review today. He thought it was OK but didn't see the point when the combat proven M4 wasn't much more expensive. ![]() Benelli's New Shotgun Might Not Be It; The Benelli M2 G1 |
