If you own a Mossberg 20" 590 or 590A1, would you please take some measurements for me.

The first is the barrel length from the bolt face the muzzle. This can be done with a narrow tape measure or by marking a cleaning rod and then measuring it with a tape measure or yard stick.

The second is the distance from the front most part of the hand guard to the rear most part of the rear bayonet lug magazine tube band. This can be done with a tape measure or ruler.

The third is the diameter of the barrel at the front magazine tube band. This will have to be measured with calipers or a micrometer.

Thanks in advance.

Measured my 590 with tape measure.  First measurement is 20 7/8 inches and second measurement is 2 3/16th inches.  Don't have calipers for third measurement.

I'll try to pull a measure when I get home later.

I don't have calipers or a mic handy so can't get you a good measure on the barrel OD. Mines also painted so measuring circumference with a string or such and doing math will only screw you up.

My 590 barrel diam at the front band is .855   Note that my barrel has a Cerakote finish so not sure how much that adds to the measurement.

Thanks. This is the non heavy barrel 590, right?

Is there anyone with a 590A1 heavy barrel that can measure their barrel diameter for me?

590a1, 20", 8+1.

Nominal 20" barrel is 20 13/16" from bolt face to crown.

Front of pump arm (castle nut) to barrel band/bayolug is between 2 7/32" and 2 9/32". My pump has some play in it. I'd call it 2 1/4" nominal.

Barrel OD (eyeball/tape, no calipers) appears to be 15/16" from end of pump arm (~12" from receiver, 8" from muzzle) all the way out to the muzzle. My eye can't pick up any taper from that point to the muzzle.

ETA: sorry I forgot to measure this yesterday.

So what are you scheming about with these measures?

Checking if a barrel I have is thin or thick walled and trying to see if an ~18" 7+1 590 would be possible.

Cut and rethread a 8 shot tube?

Yeah and attach a mag band or bands where they need to go. I'm going to run all the numbers but right now it seems I could go at least 2 1/4" shorter than the 20 13/16" barrel and only lose 1 round capacity. If I stay at 2 1/4", I could even retain the bayonet lug. Maybe even shorter if I use the short hand guard.

Gonna melt the barrel bands off to relocate them (jig and braze?)?

I don't see this working without relocating the bands.

Interesting that the pic you posted has a sling point on the back of the bayo lug. My mag tube cap has a hole for a sling swivel. I use a BFG picatinny mount on the fore grip to attach my sling though.

Yeah, I'd have to relocate or fabricate and attach new ones.
