I just got my hands on a early model M82A1 with serial number 0600. My Christmas present. I got it as is, everything is original from 1994. Seller had it stored away for 20+ years before finally selling it to me. I've shot it, and it shoots wonderfully. Just wondering as a first time M82A1 owner what should I be looking out for?

That's a good looking rifle. Congrats.

I'll bet @50cal can tell you all about it.

50Cal probably built it... are you from the St. Augustine area by any chance?

Wow, an early one with the Birdsong Black T coating.
The cylindrical brake isn't as effective as the arrow head style.
The 33" barrel is a Batten Performance Engines chem etch barrel. They are very accurate. A lot of the parts interchange with the later A1's.

It's a really nice looking rifle. Someone took very good care of it.

Would the Arrow style brake be compatible with this model?

Most likely yes.
Need a pic of the right side of the bolt carrier. Where the accelerator arm is at the right rear.
If it has the straight down cut at the rear, an arrow head brake will not work.
If it has the rearward cut out at about a 30* angle, an arrow head brake will work.

Bolt carrier out of the rifle if you can.
Sorry for the mix up. Left hand side of the carrier pic.

12 years into production doesn't sound very early to me.

It is only ser no 600. That is a pretty early rifle. The original M82 went from #100 to around #250 or so. Then the 82a1 started. Not very many were made each year. And one at a time.

I started there in Feb 02. A1's were around #1300 or #1400 or so. The Marine Desert Shield/Storm guns were built in '91, after the Marines got to Saudi Arabia.  There were 150 of them or so and started at 1050 or so.

Not to hijack, but were the early M99's with the 33" non-fluted barrel also BPE barrels?

No. Those are Krieger. Later on, sometime around '02 or so, they were furnished by Fedderson in Lenoir City, Tn.

I'm selling this rifle. How much would be a fair price to sell it at?
