$29 is decent, but remember there is no scabbard with it.

A GenCut M7 should have a really sharp factory edge.  Avoid MilParCol unless your blade requirements involve spreading butter.

Do all GI bayonets have markings?

I bought one in the EE without any. The seller said as much, and I plan on cutting it down to fit my SBR. But wanted to make sure it's a junker/import before doing so.

Is the M7 the way to go, or is there a better bayonet for the ar platform?

There are better, but for the price I think the M7 is the way to go.

The marine bayonet is pretty sweet.

I think it's the best USGI M16 bayonet.

If you want a better bayonet, try an Eickhorn Bayonet 2000 or 2005.
They're uncommon in the US.

Depends on whether you want the bayonet to only serve as a bayonet or also serve as a general use utility knife.

If you only want it to function as a bayonet and have other knives for utilitarian tasks, the M7 is a very sensible design. If you want the bayonet to be a do-it-all knife, the current Marine Corps issue bayonet is a better design.
