I must say, I'm a bit surprised. With all the openings on this firearm, I figured there would be gas everywhere, especially with a Nomad L on it. Now that I've lived with it, its not bad at all.
This gun is pretty long and fairly heavy to begin with so I thought the suppressor would really make it miserable and unwieldy but its not a whole lot different, honestly. I shoot off hand, in the woods, so small, light guns have always been my go to. 125 yards is about the farthest I can see, anywhere on the property. There is no way I can stretch the M1A's legs where I'm at but I really, really like shooting it. It is loud as all get out, so suppressing it, has made a tremendous difference. One of my dogs goes mad when I shoot the M1A unsuppressed, but now, he doesn't care a bit. Apparently the original muzzle device makes a high pitched ringing sound that really is bad on dog ears. Now that I've lived with it, its not bad at all. Offensive gas, no, not really. Blowback, most definitely. I wouldn't shoot a suppressed M1A without eye pro if you paid me. It's a bit less in-your-face with a rail directing it in a bit of a V pattern to either side, but still enough to knock a loose fitting hat off one's head. Even with the gas turned down as far as I can without making it a single shot and running a .375 cal can, our Scout Squad is pretty bad. The M1A is a cool rifle, but as semi auto .308 suppressor hosts go, it's near the bottom of my list. |

Beautiful rifle OP. It will serve you well when a rabid Moose, CWD deer or a squirrel with a spur in it's ass attacks you.
That being said, just wait until you build an AR10 and suppress it. Even Mo' betta |

I bought a LRB M25 crazy horse and a Aussie SEI can as a grail combo. After tinkering with it a good bit, I built a GAP 10.
As much as I hate to say it, the Gap is far more accurate, easier to shoot, and doesn't have any of the downsides of the M14. I'm giving up a level of reliability, but I don't get my face puked on anymore, it's quieter, and the accuracy went from 1.5 moa and 1.25 on a good day to .75 with an occasional .5. Now I wish I would have built on one of the new small frames, as the GAP is a boat anchor.
