The only thread I found on a search was from 06/2021, and it referenced getting KCI mags. My experience with KCI mags for Glock was not good, as the magazine feed lips were soft and would open up when shooting, so the mags were not something I would rely on for reliability. So is KCI the best way to go for the M1 carbine? If some of the new mags from places like Auto Ordnance a better choice. Should a person stay with original older surplus USGI ones that come from a variety of makers? So what is the current best choice? I've got a few dozen KCI's both 15rd and 30rd. They all run great for me in 5 carbines. My only gripe is they need to be loaded and unloaded 5 or 6 times until they feel smooth. (Especially the 30rd'ers). Oh and the finish flakes off rather than wearing smoothly. I've never used any other KCI mags and probably won't, but for the Carbine they haven't done me wrong. |

This and not a bad time to clean any rough edges off of the follower, feed lips, certainly can't hurt. Having the M2 mag "catch" button helps hold them as they have the proper M2 extra lug, as do Keep Shooting mags. I swapped out a factory KCI spring for a Wolff extra power - Comparing the two they both perform flawlessly and the factory KCI spring is a little larger than the Wolff. Pic below. I have some older KCI mags in 30 and 15. Mine came with a beautiful blued finish just like GI. I tried them all and no problems at all. The ones I use regular I had CeraKoted. They are great for me and 7 different carbines. Once I found some NOS 15rd military mag springs wrapped in wax/cosmoline wrap. I used three springs for some old GI mags and am hoarding the rest. Don't remember where I got them (mail order) but they screwed up big time on my order. They were 3.50, I needed 3 so when the order comes in it is the packs of 10 each for about 15. with shipping. I was a happy camper. |

Dredging this thread up. I bought a few KCI 30 round mags for my carbine, should I buy a type IV mag catch and swap them? I’ve done a little reading and some people say it’s not necessary if you aren’t going to shoot a lot. |
