I always kind of wanted an M1 carbine. I am more interested in Garands, hence why I got those from CMP instead back when they were cheap, but thanks to Midway, I just placed an order for a carbine. What magazines should I be looking at? Ideally I'd like a mix of 15 and 30 rounders, though I've heard horror stories about 30 rounders in the past. In the GD Midway thread, I was told to buy new Korean mags. Are the KCI mags any good? What about the 15 vs 30 round mags? Thanks! |

The KCI Mags are the best inexpensive ones out right now. Some have M2 style bolt hold open followers, some don't. I use my Korean mags all the time and plan on using them as defense mags if needed. I've been using the M2 style but plan on testing a couple of the M1 style next chance I get. I do plan on only loading 14 rounds when I do though, that was common practice during the war from what I was told by a GI who carried one and liked it |
Absolutely KCI. Gun Mag Warehouse has them for $11.99 and at this moment there are 4 waiting for me in my mailbox.  I have quite a few USGI magazines but see no need in using them when they're worth more to collectors than me. As such, I'll eventually sell them and replace them with KCI's. |

I checked a couple of the ones I have before I left for work before. It looks like the one's in the paper wrap are M1 style mag followers, the one's in the plastic bags M2 style |
Ummm.....scratch the 15 rounders from GunMagWarehouse. I just opened mine and they are of the BHO variety.  Now I gotta remember where I got the others!ETA- Found it- Outdoor Limited and they're $10.99. |

I'm tempted to order another 5 myself but figure I have 50 of them in the wrap now, that should hold me on Omaha Beach or Zombieland if I have to use them

I appreciate it, but it turns out my dad has a bunch of USGI mags sitting around that he's going to send me eventually. In the meantime I ordered KCI mags, eight 30 rounders and two 15 rounders. If I understand correctly, I will need a different magazine catch to run 30 rounders. How difficult is it to change the catch? I obviously don't want to hurt the gun, and want to keep all original parts in good shape. And if there is some chance it will run without changing the mag catch, I'd prefer to keep the gun stock. Also, are non-bolt hold open followers sold separately anywhere? |

Brownells has the used usgi mags back in stock. Between 10 new usgi from brownells 5 Used usgi from brownells 10 New kci 15rnd bho 5 New kci 30rnd bho 5 usgi mags my carbine is coming with.
