Can you guys running optics on a M1A post pics ? Is there any way to Co-witness a red dot and sights on a Scout or Socom?

If you are using the scout rail system with a dot on that you may be able to get one to co-witness.  If its possible the most liekely cantidates are the type found on a MOS Glock or other optics ready pistol. Something like a RMR
The only dot I have run on M1a is a Aimpoint 9000L in 30mm rings it does well but no co witness.

Ultimak rails for standard profile M1-A barrels mount a red dot as low as you can go on an M1-A.

I wish they made one that fit Super Match models.

Ultimak on a Smith ent. The mro with trijicon low mount provides basically a lower 1/3. If you run an aimpoint micro, it will fully co witness.
*yes I know the sling is installed upside down*

I have a similar set up, but with a low profile mount and a Sig Romeo 5, and don't see the sights at all, and didn't even with the red dot right on the rail.

But, it's a plenty good cheek weld.  And not seeing the sights can be an advantage as you don't have them cluttering up your red dot view.  The advantage would be you don't need a QD mount to pitch the thing off with gooks in the wire and you're red dot failing, like we all know we're going to have to do!

I haven't bought one and it may or may not achieve a Co-Witness but it's one of the lowest mounts out.

I ended up trying an Aimpoint Micro LRP QD mount on my SOCOM16 but only to quickly remove because I couldn't achieve a Co-Witness.

@Cincinnatus
That's nice.

How much weight did it add?

That’s the M14.CA SHG.  Very light. Highly recommended.

I HAD the KAC rail, which was cool, but heavy.  This one is perfect and cowitnesses

Just curious what advantage the cheek rest has for a red dot mounted in alignment with the barrel?  I assume it is a M1 Garand cheek piece.

Nice!  Is there any advantage to the M14.CA rail vs the Ultimak?

I wanted to go with the Hopco mount but I didn’t want to give up the iron sights.

@Dog1
@Rabidus

How sturdy is the stripper clip mount? Would you trust it to keep zero with some rough handling?

@Lungbuster

Yes. I have thousands of rounds through the socom with that mount. Suppressed and unsuppressed. I've never had it lose zero.

The Springfield stripper clip is tight. It will not move.

Only caveat is I wish they had an RMR mounting profile.

@ Dog1, or anyone else

How is your stripper clip guide mount attached? Just one allen head threadlocked?

Thanks

This is my current setup.  However, I am considering going to a Bassett high mount, which allows the use of the iron sights.  Bassett, is aluminum, and can be removed, or reinstalled as needed without the lose of zero.
