How about this long range pan/tilt thermal imager manufactured by Elbit.  Got it up and running this week and it's pretty sweet,  it has 3 fields of view and reaches out a looong way!  I will try to get some video from it this weekend and post it.

I am guessing that uses a cooled array?  Any idea on the focal length(s)?

So....how much counter weight will I need on the helmet and does Wilcox make a mount for it?

Looking forward to pics/video this weekend!

You are welcome to come hunt on my property. It's about 300 yards deep so you may have to crank that thing to 11

Silly Rabbit, you can’t helmet Mount that. It’s obviously more suited for drone use. ??

Wow, big mother. How much? My guess would be around $500,000.

Total system cost with imager, pan/tilt, control unit, controllers and monitors was 400-500k from Elbit in 2013.  This system has only had 110 hours on the meter and is like new.

Maybe it's perspective but those pics make it look reallly top heavy with a less than ideal base width.

Definitely not Horta!  I purchased it from the US Government, so absolutely no issues with provenance on it.

Holy crap!  You should be able to see some incredible detail with that thing provided it is in good working order.  I am very much looking forward to seeing some of its imagery.  If you do so, please state the approximate range of whatever the subject happens to be.  You may need to enlist the help of Google Earth to do it because that thing has to have some absolutely ludicrous range  Cool toy (pun intended), thanks for sharing.

Sorry for the terrible video.  At this point I can only capture an AVI of the screen and the limit is one minute.  Geez, the file size was 4 gigs!  I will try again later.

Hell with a drone, you could mount that to a real plane or helicopter

Here is a better video showing some system capabilities.

A couple cool capabilities is VMD - Video Motion Detection, building a smart scan panorama image and creating trajectories for the system to scan.

So was this on one of those Government Liquidation type websites or something?  What did you pay for it?  Inquiring minds and all that. :-)

Agree on the top heavy observation.  Those EVPU pan tilts are really robust but that payload CoG looks pretty far from the axis of rotation.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but that looks like an MSO-2 system.  They are servo driven and can sag when power is removed.  If the system isn't balanced well, it could take a nose dive when power is removed.  A better design approach would be to side-mount the payload.  That way, you could add a long-range vis camera to the other side.  I know EVPU offers side arms for many of their p/t systems.  Is there much backlash in your system?  Any idea who the camera manufacturer is?

No issues with the payload being top heavy, when power is turned off the pan/tilt does not move.  The whole system/camera was manufactured by Elbit Systems out of Israel.

Wow, thanks for the video. That’s one hell of a thermal. Puts my little Flir PTS233 to shame.
