We just got a shipment in. We are doing an inventory of what we owe for open orders and will put whatever is left up on the site.

Great!

I'm still trying to decide whether to build a kit or order from RRH.

@jaqufrost just put 30 midlength in stock on the site. There are 100 people signed up for back-in-stock notifications on these fyi.

carbine length tubes should be here in a few weeks

Thanks! I went ahead and ordered a build kit, barrel, a5 receiver extension kit, some links and the mid length gas tube.

I plan to use the RRH 13.75 handguard and one of the longer adjustable gas blocks.

My Inconel gas tube arrived today (thanks for quickly sorting that Lima Six team!)

Got my upper assembled and now I'm waiting for the Inoculum Lower too arrive.

  • Lima Six Build Kit

  • KAK 5.56 12.5" Barrel (I wanted a shorty!)

  • Red Right Hand 10.5" RPD Rail

  • Riflespeed .875 Gas Block to pair with the KAK barrel

  • V7 Inconel Gas Tube

  • UTG Recon Flex II Bipod (7"-9") - I wanted a side mount bipod to spread the legs wider and keep the lower rail clean for VFG and ARCA rail use. I'm curious to see how this height works with the Inoculum Lower and a 150-200 round feedsack

  • The ACOG and Silencerco Hybrid are just place holders for now, I am trying to decide on what optic and suppressor I want to use.

He didnt go into enough details to diagnose it from the video, but it just looks to me like he basically did a meltdown test with the gun and it softened the wave spring on the riflespeed, making it loose. We haven't had this occur on any of out other customers guns, but I have heard of this happening during meltdown tests of IAR's.

Cody from RRH says installing two wave springs pretty much eliminates that issue, but honestly if you have a sane firing schedule you shouldn't have a problem.

I think his rate of fire changes were due to the adjustable gas block changing settings mid belt - probably due to the heat damaged wave spring.

Its possible, but there are things that can cause this regardless of the gas block. The tube heating up expands and allows more gas to flow, the belt gets lighter as it gets shorter, and the resistance feeding from nutsacks can change depending on how the belt was stacked inside.

I'm used to the ramping as the belt gets shorter and the gun gets hotter. I don't think I've ever shot from a nutsack, I have more experience with 240's and the belts were in cans or out on the ground.

I agree. Belt friction/resistance from the nutsack can easily cause those variations.

I work for Brandon. I handled ordering the complete barreled upper receiver from L6, I'm not sure what gas tube it came with. It was purchased back in November I think.
We never got the gun anywhere near hot enough to kill the gas block wave spring. It turned out to be the needle regulator getting carbon locked, total round count through the upper is about 700. That video was filmed the day before it was uploaded, so we didn't really have time to do a deep diagnosis on the problem.
On the day of filming the firing schedule was roughly 100 round belts with 10 minutes in between each to set up the next video segment. Pretty spicy but certainly not a burn down
From the very first belt fired through the gun it's had the ROF "problem". It happens regardless of ammo or gas setting.
For the record we've tried Aguila, Federal, Igman, and PPU. All function fine and all have the fluctuations in ROF
It also happens with our post sample machine gun lower, although the FRT does make it worse. We didn't really think much of it and just thought it was a quirk of the system since it runs despite the fluctuations.

While we're here, I want to talk about the Hydra lower. What a nightmare! When we first got it, the pocket for the rearmost upper receiver lug was out of spec. I looked it up and found a few people in this thread with the same problem, so we RMA'd it. The unit we received back (new serial) had the same problem.
We then discovered the extremely non milspec trigger pocket, and chucked the thing in our CNC mill and recut the entire inner pocket of the lower to milspec m16 cut. No more problems after that.

I also got bad Hydra lowers.  It especially pissed me off because one serial number was actually my DOB in MMDDYY format.  Totally rendom luck on that, and it turned out to be a lemon.  They replaced it with a new lower that works, but has a different SN.

If I was doing things over, I'd go with the Inoculum (sp?) dedicated L6 lower.

I ran out of characters on my post because I'm a new user, I had to edit it down
A few more details I wanted to include

    * The ROF variation in question (for those that didn't watch the video) is a weird phenomenon where the ROF starts slow, speeds up in the middle, slows down again, and then speeds up at the end. Speeding up at the end is a pretty well established quirk of this system and not really anything to worry about IMO

    * The variation also happens with a belt fed into the gun with an A-gunner. However, feeding from a nutsack definitely makes it worse

Again it's not something I'm really worried about and wasn't really presented as a problem in the video, just a quirk we observed. I wanted to address it directly before people misconstrue it into some kind of attack.

Tomorrow will likely be the day for getting mine broke in. Everything is assemble, just need to throw some temporary sights on. One thing I want to try to square away today is the rifle speed. I was fooling with it Friday night and it seems like once I hit around 6-7, the adjustment wheel just goes loose. I’m assuming that’s just the standard detent length losing connection around that point, I just assumed it would give positive connection through the whole rotation. Are folks doing ok with the pre installed detent? And what’s the gas setting folks are steadying up on? Suppressor use will change that, but figured it’d give me a good idea where to look at post break in.

Just need to buy a crow’s foot for my torque wrench today. The KAK barrel tapers sharply at the shoulder and interferes with a standard armorer’s wrench with the muzzle device I chose. Don’t want to launch the whole thing down range when it works its way off.

Are you sure you have the knob installed all the way? When you first install the knob you need to push inward on the ring to get it past the 12 setting, then its fully installed.

I’ll double check tonight. That’s a very plausible explanation. I probably rotated it out when I was playing with it while waiting for the barrel to get here.

Fooled with it a minute while realizing I bought/didn’t have the other things I needed. It rotates from setting 1 to about 9, then has a lot of wiggle, and is loose for ten until you turn it back to engage the detent. I’ll read up on the disassembly/assembly tomorrow. Had t gotten that far since I hadn’t planned to swap the detent.

I'm kinda dumb, not done much more than swaping buffer springs etc. If I want to go to inconel tube, is that anything I can get my hands on, or did it need to be shaped particular for the lima6, I vaguely recall the videos about the barrel having the gas port in another location and being able to send your barrel in for that.

Depends on the gas block you're using, not anything specific to the Lima6.  If you're using a Riflespeed then you need a straight tube.  Some other adjustable blocks and a very few fixed blocks use straight tubes as well.

We have a member here who makes the 1/2x28 adapter for a M60 mount.

That particular bipod is a airsoft m60 bipod and works fine. I bought 3 airsoft m60 bipods for 1/4 the price of a real one.

I’m sure the real ones are much better, but I when the cheap route.

The big tripod is an Amazon Fanaeu brand. Think I gave $250 for it and was used for coyote hunting. I then bought a picatinny to arca adapter and mounted it.

It works really well. With the flip of 1 lever I can dismount the gun and move it fast.

Once locked in on a tripod, wolf steel case gas setting 5 at 75yards keeping all FRT rounds on a 10” plate. Super smooth.

I didn't realize that a rifle length gas system might not have enough gas to drive the Lima 6.  Should I try to exchange/replace my 18" rifle length barrel with an 18" mid-length barrel?  Or would I be fine?  I was planning on running it with a suppressor, which would increase the back pressure.  But it sounds like it would be unreliable without operating with the suppressor.

You can probably drill the gas port out if you find it to be a problem. That's what I did with my 16" rifle gas AR when I wanted it to run steel case and PMC bronze.

I was thinking this also.  I purchased the professional drilling service from Lima 6 so maybe I can have them drill a larger gas port to mitigate this.  Have you had any reliability issues with your 16" rifle length gas system or is running fine?

To be clear, my 16" rifle gas is not on a lima six. It works fine on a regular AR15 now that it is opened up. The gas port was originally cut for a 20" length and I shortened it to 16". It worked fine with 5.56 loads but was undergassed with steel cased ammunition. I then opened the port and didn't have any more issues.

Given the extra mass and belt movement involved with the Lima Six, I can see why they recommend an 18" mid gas system.

We modify rifle length barrels with .120" gas ports which is effectively the largest gas port you can use. You can certainly run this configuration, but you need to run the black spring only (not the stiffer sprinco orange spring) in an A5 tube, and an H2 buffer (not H3). We also suggest a fixed (non-adjustable) gas block and avoid weak ammunition. Many people run this configuration without issue, but you are on the edge of optimal operation so expect a little bit longer break-in period.
