I am thinking about a Lima 6 kit. But they requires a side mounted gas hole in barrel. Why not use an angled gas tube similar to the pig tail type? This would allow you to use just about any AR15 barrel. You would just need to bend it to size.Attached File

I wondered this too.  Would make sense to relocate the gas tube to the top, to keep the heat further away from the bottom/side of the handguard.

Those gas tube's don't handle high rates of fire well. But you could probably make your to try.

Im pretty sure the Lima-6 uses standard AR barrels with a special gas block.  Or you can drill a new gas port and use any gas block.  Not sure what you're trying to figure out.

The gas hole is drilled in the side off the barrel. For the side mounted gas tube. I do not think you can use std AR barrels. Without drilling a new hole. It would be nice to use std barrels and just slightly bend the gas tube to fit.

Just drill a new gas port. It's not too hard to do.

Thats not correct

It uses a standard ar barrel installed 90 degrees from normal and a special gas block to bring the tube back to the top position.

Yeah, I posted before the Pigtails suck for FA.
I was planning on using a large volume gas tube.  I have TIG welded my own to do 'constant recoil' M16 configurations as I have documented on my site here: https://c3junkie.com/?page_id=1403
However, now thinking about the offset, it maybe good to copy what LaFrance did with a twist.

Below is a picture of one of my LaFrance gas tubes.  Make a box like that for increased volume and do the offset at the same time?

That’s cool! So I can use any std barrel. And the gas block is at the 60 degree angle.

An angled tube is not a good idea.  You want to keep the gas tube as straight as possible, so when it gets super hot, it doesn't blow forward and out of the gas key.  If you had the rear end of the gas tube secured, it might work, but just hanging/dangling out loose like an AR-15, no way.

Unfortunately, I have a bit of experience here building the Tromix Siamese-16 and Trimese-16 with non-straight gas tubes.

Always an inspiration sir! Ha!

Thinking a heavy double walled gas tube would be the ticket. Until conversion over to piston!

The gas block has a key cut that transitions the gas where it needs to go for those who don't want to drill a barrel.

I guess that there gas block did not work out for them. So we are back to drilling our own. I am curious if we need to weld closed the old gas port hole?

The old ports end up filling up with carbon and copper and essentially welding themselves shut

You can see it at the 19:40 mark - https://youtu.be/8FV6JRMb0Xs?si=TNMF4EEsW9DSzV2M&t=1181

Yea, when I first seen that, I thought that was pretty cool. The old hole gets completely sealed. It looks like it has been brazed or welded closed.
