It's a John McGuire build on a US kit in 308.  It's got a tripod (maybe my M249S will fit on it, too!?), an A6 kit w/bipod, handle, stock, A6 flash hider, standard grip and spade grip as well.  Includes some disintegrating links (I hear they are getting hard to find) as well as some cloth belts.

I know that I need to be super-careful with the spring and guide rod during take-down.

What do I need to know about these?

Edited to add pics:

And the temples of his Gods."

Congrats!
WWII TM and FM manuals (or lower cost reprints) are useful/interesting.
Finite accessories group involved with this weapon.

Particularly (for any cycle rate), snap on $15 metal Trunion cover to prevent round count chafe. Belts and the rounds inside them wear divots in the softer alloy Trunion (older brass) base, links not good neither.

The recoil spring legend is over emphasized. Right way/Wrong way simple. Yet one day Van The Man (Vahan) phoned, it came up a BMG spring got loose in the garage, ended up inches deep in a wall.

I prefer the Valhalla method myself. Take the risk, but if you get falsely accused die in a glorious shootout and then dine in Valhalla.
