It looks pretty nice, I doubt we'll ever see them over there but I'm sure they'll be well made. I'd say it looks like the BREN 2 but you could also easily say SCAR, ACR and maybe HK 433. Truth is they all start looking alike because they're meeting very similar customer specs.

I wonder if every time a shell casing falls to the ground they cordon off the area and treat it like a disaster zone.

That is only if they have the intact Mum.  If the Mum is ground off subtract 40%.

Its an improved ACR.

JSDF purchased ACRs years ago for trials and testing, here's the culmination. I love it, its basically everything the ACR should have been.

Wonder what glass that is.

Pricing isn't all that bad if it includes optic, accessories, servicing, etc.

I remember someone doing that legwork and it was some variant of the March F line, I believe.  Those are around a $3000 optic.

Japanese optics are supposed to be pretty awesome.  Wouldn't be surprised if the high-end Primary Arms ACSS optics from Japan are rebranded March stuff.

Japanese just rip off other designs for their rifles.

This looks like it ripped off the B&T APC with scar like lower and buttstock.

Too bad no Type 89 parts kits given japanese laws.

Come on. All companies knows how to rip off their government. Did you really expect them to give the government a good deal?

Same crap here.

Military contracts typically include a lot of things such as spare parts, tooling, training, and accessories (to meet whatever was specified in the contract). So it's almost never as simple as "total price / order quantity" to arrive at a unit price.

And Japan is also just a plain expensive country, with a small defense industry (limited or no opportunities to support industry with international sales). That raises the price.

Everybody rips off other designers work since Maxim and Browning were the big names in firearm design. Nobody’s invented anything substantially new since WWII.

Stoner’s AR18 design has been one of the most copied since the 50s, but the design concepts of the AR18 were nothing new.

Did Ford, Chevy and Ram rip off each other in the design of pick ups?  No

This is the next gen carbines.  Already made the AK obsolete as these get fielded (Pakistan and Egypt more to follow) and next on the block will be the AR.  May be a few more decades, but it will happen.  Logistically these are easier to make with fewer parts.
