I know 308 has more pressure than 7.62, I have a box federal 308 win 165 soft point from the 80s, is that even too much?

what twist did the Israeli use?

Even though the gun is technically chambered for 7.62 NATO,it is a strong Mauser 98 model action and it will be able to handle the small increase in pressure with no problems.

Most 7.62 barrels are a 1 in 12 twist which should be able to stabilize up to a 200 grain bullet with no problems.

Maximum pressure for the 8mm is 56,560 CIP

Maximum  pressure for 308 Winchester is 60,191 CPI

I don't think there would be a problem with the 308

Awesome

I can finally shoot that box of ammo.

Yeah some one glass bedded the rifle and sporterized it with a leupold mount and rings.??. But hey 200 bucks why not.

Pic?  Was it done well?  I'm sort of a sucker for sporterized milsurps that were done well.  Some of those from the 50s, 60s and even 70s are works of art.

There is still some fair work being done in the 21st century.

I know of people that use their Israeli mausers to test questionable surplus ammo, because they trust the action to handle it if shit goes sideways

Any properly made commercial .308 is fine in one.
