Saw a nice one recently. But I have not seen ammo for it in awhile. Here and there. Unless I start hand loading, is it more of a nostalgia thing now or a waste of money on another reloading set up?

35 REM is still a prized caliber (in my neck of the woods, Maine/NH) and with a vintage 336, even better. I would buy that in a heartbeat. Worry about ammo later.

Buy it. Today.
I kick myself for selling mine. |

View Quote This. OP, if you want one, that’s a decent price in today’s lever gun market … which is insane, BTW. But it is what it it is. I’d prefer one in 30-30, but I wouldn’t turn my nose up at the .35. It’s a solid cartridge for a woods deer gun. |
|
|
I’d consider it if no safety present.
2 boxes will last a long time whenever you find some ammo. |

I saw one for around 1k a few years back. I didn't buy, a) don't use that caliber to hunt, b)just sold a 30-30 so why bother with something so similar, c) I don't like ancient calibers.
But at your price I'd buy and flip it. |

Pretty much any lever action s worth $650.00 used these days, marlin / Winchester run even more.

GOOD price, even better if it is a JM marked barrel gun.Lever gun prices are crazy.
35 Remington ammo is available though sparingly. When I bought mine I gathered brass and bullets too.It is a joy to shoot and used @ it's effective range delivers DRT Deer. |

You get a $1,000,000,000,000 & you get a trillion$

I got one, a JM marked, when my FIL passed away, along with a Winchester lever and Stevens bolt action both in 30-30, a few 22s, and a few shotguns.
The 35 REM is a bit an older, show a little love & use, but feels solid and shoots well. I’ll hand it down to my son and hopefully he’ll hand it down to his kids. As others said, the 35Rem is a good whitetail round for the thick woods, so go buy it, if you hate it, you’ll probably be able to sell it for a profit at anytime. |

Probably already gone. As stated previously if it's a JM marked bbl and no safety rifle.....hot property right now. Unless it's completely clapped out.

Dude that’s the best deal I’ve heard on one of those rifles in 5 years.

I have 3
a 1951, 1952, and 1958 one has a 1951 peep site one has a red dot and one has leaf sights I hunt in Maine with the 1958 with red dot. you pretty much have to buy brass and load for it |

I havent seen ammo on a shelf out here in over 2 years. If you dont mind paying g $3-$4 a round on GB, it's a nice caliber.
I said screw it and dumped mine. 45-70 is more better anyway and way cheaper. |

|
Hurry, 4 boxes left at $53 each. I bought and shared here at a lower price a year or so ago.

I picked up a rem model 8 in 35 Remington, a few years back and have been able to find ammo when needed, mostly gun shows
Edit: I would buy a lever gun in 35 rem at that price!! |
|
|
I picked up one about 10 years ago on the EE for $275. I love it a shoot a couple hundred rounds of handloads through it each year and take it hunting.
Ammo can still be found. I picked up a couple of boxes of new mfg. Winchester this winter at Fleet Farm but it was almost $50/20 rd box. Same with brass, found new mfg. Horandy at Fleet Farm. if I remember correctly that was almost $50/ box of 50 |

I have my Dads Marlin in 35rem. I've seen ammo at gun shows but they cost a bloody fortune. I reload for mine. Never not shooting!
$650 is a great price for one. |
|
|
Not to me. I’ve passed on plenty in that caliber that were priced much cheaper. It’s a dead caliber commercially and very near unobtainable. Brass and bullets are supposedly difficult to source as well. At least the last time I even considered one back during Covid. Maybe things have improved?
ETA: I just jumped on GB and everyone is right. Sellers are asking stupid money for them. |

I have my dad’s. Man it is a thumper. Back in the day not uncommon to use for moose, etc. Great rifles.

My father in law bought a nice pre safety 336 in 35 Rem about 10 years ago, before the lever gun craziness hit.
Got him a couple of boxes of ammo for it, and we shot it a few times on the farm one day. Then he called me one day and asked what a S&W SD9 was worth. I told him not a lot. He said "I traded that 35 Remington for one. I think I did pretty good" |

Ammo is almost non-existent. I know guys with them and they don't dare use them bc they can't find more ammo. Keep in mind I've told them 1000 times buy all the ammo you can afford bc it's an oddball caliber....but what do I know... |

Yes. 336s in 30-30 are going for 850+, a 35 remington JM is probably worth quite a bit more.

The problem is that there just isn’t much of it on the market even when they do a once a year run at the factory. I did a deep dive via a variety of forums a few years back when I stumbled upon one for cheap. Guys have been complaining about .35 Rem ammo availability for almost 20 years. It ain’t coming back. It’s a reloader only cartridge and you better take care of that brass. |
