| The new director of the ATF submitted 30+ changes related one of which was #15. Engraving receivers on SBRs. I read conflicting information regarding the engraving requirements for approved form 1s that it is for factory SBRs and not manufactured (I.e. self submitted). I just had 2 approved form 1s and was wondering if the change to no longer require engraving has gone into effect or is still pending approval. |

You must play the game. You can't win. You can't break even. You can't quit the game.

| How many are going to wait for the rule to take effect? I’ve got a Form 1 currently at 55 days and thinking that if I get it back in the next couple of weeks, I’ll just wait a few more months to “make” it so I don’t have to get it engraved. I can survive running it with a brace for a couple of more months. |

Plus I have a couple braces to throw on them if I want to run them. So I am gonna wait to see how it plays out. |

I’d guess the above will be the answer, but we won’t know for sure until the new rule is published. |

If you read the text and discussion of the proposed rule in the FR, it’s pretty clear that the intent is to do away with the requirement to additionally engrave the maker’s information if the receiver already has proper manufacturer’s information. |

Your boos mean nothing, I've seen what makes you cheer
| With the latest ruling on the NFA, One could argue that essential the NFA no longer exists for Suppressors, SBR's and SBS's for those that are covered. So, a covered individual who installs a barrel shorter than 16" isn't making anything. For them, SBRs no longer exist. Also, unless you're creating a lower from scratch, you're not the original maker. So, no additional engraving should be needed. |
I don't need therapy. I just need someone to rob me at the gas station so I can let it all out.

If that’s what @BSOG1 is referring to? In that case, its my understanding that making your own SBR/SBS is a two part answer. There’s making the item, then determining (as of now), whether or not you are required to engrave it. Its been explained numerous times in the big thread in GD (edit: go to top of page 113): https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/Federal-Court-Strikes-Down-NFA-Registration-on-untaxed-firearms/5-2853946/ This thread has a good summary: https://www.ar15.com/forums/general/Let-s-See-If-This-Works-New-NFA-Injunction-Thread-Facts-Only/5-2855639/ |
