Someone got a choke tube stuck in the 28" barrel and their attempt to remove it did not go well. Then, they took a torch to it hoping that the super heat would loosen it. Choke tube is now a permanant part of the barrel. It ain't comin out. After the failed attempts to remove the choke tube, they gave up and I bought it off GunBroker at a reasonable price. Bolt stuck as well. Overall, not well kept. Tore it all down, super cleaned it, re-lubed it, and now it is pretty much butter smooth. Shows no wear. Barrel was too long anyway and I moved forward on the shortening of the barrel. It's at 11" now. Funny thing. The barrel was clean, shiny, and in excellent shape. She's well worn on the camo and I think adds to the overall look. It's growing on me. Need to finish off the muzzle and the vent rib. Install a front sight and maybe a rear sight on the receiver. Its an original gun including the buttpad in which the screws were stripped in the stock and the rubber getting harder.

I like it a lot, always love the vent rib versions and I'm really thinking I want to go back to a conventional stock for mine. I used to have a search for a screwed-up vent rib barrel going, need to get back on that. |

Sorry just saw this. Extension is a Vang Comp +1, I removed their sling mount. The sling mount I am running is a Magpul barrel clamp that has a built in QD sling mount, I’ve also got the GG&G rear QD mount so it’s fast to take the sling off Yep same barrel, factory 14” with DEA rifle sights. The VR80 is an excellent platform that runs well pretty short. There is a bit of work to get the VR80's to the really short config and make them run reliably. Maybe my favorite platform. The work is not difficult, just time consuming. Need a lathe and a mill and know how to use them to make it happen. |

Here are detail pix of modified "V" block the gunsmith made to accept the modified plastic K-grip. Grip is attached to the block via bolt through open bottom of handle.  It was built in 1990 since then gunsmith has passed away. |

14hr NFA approval on this one. This is the Remington issue folding stock that they made just before they folded. It's a solid product, but needed a bit of sandpaper to soften some edges around the pistol grip. It's a 12.5, so it disappears behind this forend. Got it drilled and tapped years ago, so now I must find another RDS to mount on it.

Mine is about 6.5lbs with the Sig Romeo 5 +5rds, curious how much extra weight the semi-auto action adds. I like your 990. I'm a semi auto guy and the 990 is a nice piece. Get's an A in the looks department. Maybe take that handgard off and show us whats under it. Get back on here after it hits the range to let us know how it went. What you ended up with ammo choice and what works. It may require a little break in so take some hotter ammo on the first trip. Clean it and re oil it before firing. Almost all long guns come slathered with a protectant and not gun oil. This will help with break in and longevity. Some of the short barreled guns don't do too well with lower powered ammo. All of mine must run 1oz 1200 fps slugs (primary) and buck. Mossberg raised the bar some with these 990's. That light weight might share some more recoil but with the benifit of quick handling. I see more entry's coming with the latest ruling against the NFA. We could see some cool shotty's coming. I picked up an IWI Mafteah (14 inch barrel, recoil operation) that will end up an SBS. It's waiting it's turn to hit the build table. The V3 weighs in at 8lbs 1oz empty. The Kynshot RB5100 hydralic recoil reducer, (buffer tube) grip adapter, red dot adds 1about 2 lbs. The gun is soft shooting by design. I put the kynshot on it to see if the buffer would interfere with cycling. It didn't. I'm going to remove it and just use an empty standard buffer tube. That will shorten the OA length about another inch. The only polymer left is the forend and the Magpul grip. It started out as a Remington V3 Field Sport. It's balance is near perfect. Slightly tail heavy. Points and shoots quickly. The red dot is a Votatu VRD501. It has a smaller window at 20mm (2 MOA dot) it's mounted as close as I can get it and that works. It weighs in just over 10ozs. Absolute co witness mount. No shift in zero since install, still at sight in. It has held up thru a lot of rounds on this build. Most budget red dots don't hold up well on shotguns. This one comes in under $70 on Amazon. I purchassed another 3 weeks ago. I still have to mount the front sight and adjust the front of the rail to make that perfect fit. This gun always goes to the range with me. Super reliable, fun to shoot, and it gets it's share of attention. The LP front sight that going on.  |

There's both an MLOK and non-MLOk versions available. I'm assuming I can't post a link to an ad on another site here, but a search for "MRQ KeyFob 870 Forend" should bring it up.
