That’s extremely nice!   Congrats on the addition to your gun family.  .243 Win is a solid caliber.  From varmint to deer it’s a killer.  .243 was the first caliber I ever got a rifle in.

.243 was 6mm when 6mm wasn't cool.

I was trying to get a rough age on gun just because i was curious.  If i'm translating it correctly it's a 1970 model.

The story i got.........
Girlfriends dad bought it from someone who carried it behind seat of truck stock was beat to pieces.   (never met her dad he passed away before me)

He bought boyd stock and put it in it for her to hunt with.......

My GF is awesome she helps clean deer process deer cook it and she can shoot...... but she has zero desire to kill anything that isn't trying to hurt her.

Yesterday she tell's me she's been thinking about it and she knows her dad would want the gun to get used not just set in back of a safe so she wants me to put it to good use........

It's funny i have very few calibers lots of guns in same calibers.

I have had the itch for something different lately just to play with.

I had gotten it in my head i wanted to build a custom bolt action long brl 6mm arc.

This isn't that but it's in a similar realm if i can live long enough to shoot the brl out on this maybe a custom twist rate 243 would be better than a 6 arc?

Actually, the .243 Win was the "cool kid."  The 6mm Remington was superior (based on 7x57 case) with greater power capacity, but didn't catch on.  But, the .243 Win is excellent for varmint, antelope and whitetail.

Load it with a Nosler Partition for deer. Should do fine. Especially for does, but don’t expect much of a blood trail. Main reason I went with a bigger caliber.

Well i reloaded a little ammo zeroed / tested with 5 rnds on the way to opening day of deer season.

Carried it in the stand as me second gun to use on pigs saturday night the old 243 layed one low at 117 yards in the dark~ 29 minutes after sunset.

Bang flop....  idk i might like 243.
