How long has the 10/22 in what looks like an M1 carbine stock been around?  I did a double take thinking it was an M1 at first. Does anyone have any experience with it?

They have made it for over a year or two.

I can remember way back when......the top hand guard was cut out for the original barrel mounted rear sight.  That turned me off.

Don't know if the new offerings have taken care of that problem.    But, I guess it's a matter of who you buy from now a days.

There is a reproduction M-1 style stock which has been on the market for probably ten years or more.   Brownell’s plus other venders have sold this stock which I like the looks a little better than the Ruger 10/22 with M-1 style carbine stock and rear stight with picatinney rail.

Sorry for double post, didn’t see the link for the Brownell’s  link until I had already posted.

Soldier of Fortune Magazine and others. Back in the 70's and 80's, you could get M1 and Mini 14 look alikes for the 10/22 pretty cheap.

I very nearly bought one at a gun show last month. But I noticed the front sling swivel wouldn’t swivel....because the screw on the band was so tight. I figured out why...even with the screw tightened so hard the swivel was locked, I was still able to pop the entire band off with finger pressure. Meaning a sling could’ve easily done the same if slung over your shoulder.

Pass.

Bought one for my daughter last year for an Appleseed shoot. By far,  without a doubt the most accurate 10/22 out of the box I have personally seen. Either I got a lemon or Ruger has improved things. And this was shooting  RGB.

My dad qualified on the M1 and I've been looking to get him one since he retired...I think I just found the perfect gift.

I bought one of the Ruger M1 Carbines a couple years ago. I think they were a run of Davidson's? The peep sight help make it a sweet shooter.
An carbine sling & oiler fit perfect. I bought an M1 butt plate but the whole stock would need to be trimmed down for it to fit. I was going to cut a thin WWII slot in the side, there is a screw there so I'm still debating.
I also bought some cheap Korean 20 round carbine mags and glued them to 10 round Ruger mags after cutting them down some. They turned out looking pretty good.

I cobbled one together with a stock from SARCO. With addedTech-Sights and a reproduction sling & oiler, it makes people do a double take at the range. I stained and refinished the wood to match my USGI M1 Carbine.

These Ruger 10/22 model number 21138 are really nice with real walnut. Bought one for each of my sons.

I wish I’d had one growing up!

I still need to order oilers, and slings. I also would be interested in getting GI barrel bands. Where’s the best place to get these items?
