FART, and do yourself a favor and buy a FART extractor.
|
|
|
Uh, what exactly is a "FART extractor"?
I'm serious. Are you referring to FA's high-end media separator? The one with the screen drain in the bottom? |

I’ll be the outlier and recommend the Rebel 17.

I still have an old thumblers tumbler that I use for pistol brass, but in my opinion the fart is superior to it and others like it for the following reasons Fart is easier to open and close. No small wing nuts or knobs to mess with It holds much more water , pins and brass ( thumblers weight limit is 5lbs, fart is 30 or something like that) Less moving parts Lower maintenance |

If you go Thumlers make sure you get the High Speed version. There is two Model B Versions.
My Model B is from the late 80's. Save for the motor and base I have replaced rollers and belts. I changed the liner. But it still works! |

There's a good thread here: https://www.ar15.com/forums/armory/How-i-built-my-own-rotary-tumbler/42-344986/
I built my tumbler using a lot of info I read there. Sure, you gotta be handy, but building your own means you can go much larger than most of the tumblers you can just go and buy. |

Had both over 10 years. Had to replace both drums, my fault. When dropped when full they get bent. Changed 1 belt, one of them will need rollers soon. Have a big bag of spare parts, so no wait for parts. Don't forget to oil the motors every so often. I use a drop of Hoppe's gun oil both ends of motor. Old school is best school if maintained. |

I had a Thumbler's. Had to deal with rust. Had to replace the bearings (they look like Delrin) and the belt.
My has F.A.R.T. lasted much longer than the Thumbler's. |
|
|
Started out way back with a couple of Thumbler's. They worked OK. Got a deal on a Rebel 17. Built a lot nicer with real bearings. Got rid of the Tumbler's and bought another Rebel. Never looked back.
I do limit brass amount to no more than 5#s, with 5#s of stainless pins. |

View Quote The later models of Thumler are powder coated inside and out. Unless you beat the heck out of it somehow and kill the coating there is nothing that can or will rust. Not sure what bearing you are talking about but the ones inside the motor are definitely NOT delrin and not going to take a dump in any hurry. Do you mean the roller guides for the drum??? |

I use Hoppe's gun oil for the motor bearings and the shaft bearings. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1240126157?pid=126157 This is an old school design, you have to lube it every so often. |

Rebel is made in USA, has real bearings on the drum support rollers and built from steel and FART is made in China and made of plastic. |

I had a couple when I discovered wet tumbling and just used what I had. I actually like it a lot. It's slower than the ones for brass, but also really quiet. If you need to tumble a thousand pistol cases at a time it won't work well, but I only do around 150 308 cases or a few hundred revolver cases at a time. I usually run it for 3-4 hours. Made in the USA too. |

This is exactly what I was eyeballing. It looks to be very durable and of excellent quality. |

I have two Frankford Large tumblers.
Combined they have both cleaned around 20k rounds. Still going strong with no issues. |

If you have the tools and skills, build your own. It will always be superior to anything you can buy. Price will be pretty much what you are willing to put into it.

Just buy the FART and use stainless steel pins for media.

no one uses the Dillon? I've had the large one for decades and have sent it back to rebuild once. Cleaned tens of thousands of pieces of brass.
