From what I read it looks like I need to count the flutes to ID the barrel? I didn't see a definitive sn cutoff.

Quoted: You're correct, I have an AW21XX and it has the good 12 flute barrel in it so you're really close but I think you've got a good one. I've shot all kinds of ammo including wolf, Paki, Indian and the dirty South African and it's run like a champ. View Quote |

I got my handguard from here.
https://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/home.asp Cheaper than dirt has used Aluminum mags for 4.00. I just bought some. They all looked good except one is scratched up and used a little mote than the others ,but runs fine. ETA: I contacted CTD about the beat mag. They are sending me another 1on them. |

It shot a 1moa group at 25 and hit steel no problem at 300. I was pretty impressed.

Timeout? Just because I said a PTR.
Geez! Look at ALL The COOL information you learned about a JLD manufactured PTR. I could tell by the stamp on the magwell. For the handguard and bipod go with RTG Parts or Imparts. So please Enjoy! |

Robert RTG is my go-to for HK and AK parts. Great guy to business with.

Put that thing on paper at 100 or 200. Sounds like you got a shooter.

Quoted: "A" prefix rifles are generally GTG and up to the high SN's of the range are Wilson barreled rifles. Fluting is good and they will generally eat any ammo happily. When JLD transformed into PTR rifles they changed the SN's to the "AW" prefix and were fine up to about AW2XXX. Then they had switched over to Thompson Center barrels and most had shallow flutes. They are generally not real happy with tar sealed milsurp ammo. After the AW6XXX they went back to correct depth fluting and the rifles settled down. View Quote Thank you. So it is probably a Wilson barrel even with the 10flutes? |

I'm curious about running some sort of 3-5x illuminated red dot scope. Anyone do this on these rifles? Any recommendations on a inexpensive scope?
|
|
[#38]
:) I see vortex doesn't offer anything. PA has a few but they have built in bullet drop reticles .
|
|
[#39]
Magnified red dots aren't real popular in general unless you are talking about a conventional scope with a red dot in the center of the crosshairs.

Just match the optic to your intended usage. I ran a Eotech on mine for years.

I put a PTR91 G.I. model in layaway since you replied to my questions. Always wanted one of these since the eighties. Friend of mine had an HK91 and sold it for around $2000 to pay bills. Now Im looking around for parts etc.
