If the barrel is good it is definitely worth the money.  Husqvarna m96's were made during the 40's for civilian shooter's that were also reservists.  They were not used in the military and much newer than other M96 rifles.

That's about right for a retail sale on them if they are in very good to excellent condition. If you look around online you can sometimes find one in the $400 ish range , again depending on condition.

I will say they are one of the nicest mauser actions out there, besides a few south american gems, and the round is really nice shooter.

I've had a number of them over the years and kick myself for not picking up a m41b sniper setup from Samco years ago.

If it's one of the long m96s that husqvarna made in the 40s it's worth 500 easy.  They usually are in fine shape as well, as they weren't used much.

Now the m38 husqvarna it just depends on the year on those.  41 and 42 are most common.  43 and 44, are uncommon and big $

The earlier converted M38s with a straight bolt are the rarest of them all.

Congrats OP, I’ve been watching for a Smith & Wesson marked Husky for many years, haven’t found one yet.

Husqvarnas were never converted down to M38 they were made that way, I think ( I don't have my book with me) and should have a bent bolt to be correct.

yeah OP, a 43 husqvarna for $500 in good shape all matching I'd be all over that like stink on ape

Check your book.
I have bought and sold several original, numbers matching M38s converted from long rifles.  They do exist and were made in Sweden under contract for the Swedish military.

The PPU match ammo is pretty amazing in 6.5x55.
SGAmmo usually has some.

I don't believe they ever had thread caps. They were issued bare and only used with the blank firing adapters.

If you reload, buy some blanks from jg sales, pull the wood projectiles, and use new load data. Cheap primed brass.

Swede milsurp ammo is non corrosive.

Reloading is the key to awesome accuracy in these rifles.
