I'm hoping to find a stainless version of the Melling MPC-85 plugs which are 1.5x.625. 8 of them will give me a 5 inch baffle stack in front of a 2.5ish blast chamber. This would be a 30 cal can on 300 Blackout subs and supers, with the occasional 30-06 or similar. The freeze plugs are roughly 50 cents each, so I doubt anything can rival the bang for buck aspect... That's pretty much exactly what I have in my Form 1 can. I don't have anything to compare it to, but it certainly takes the edge off the 11.5" SBR where it normally lives. On a 16" upper it makes .223 sound like unsuppressed .22lr (to my ear). With a .22 kit in the 16" upper, it sounds like a pneumatic nail gun. Having said that, I'm sure there's a reason why all those fancier F1 cones are available. If freeze plugs were better, no one would buy the cones or spend the time making them. |

I metered my first six cans at Rugged one day, along with several commercial cans. Mine were all freeze plugs at the time. Not much difference at all…just a few dB in most cases.

They'll definitely get the job done. They just won't be light or have the resistance of better alloys.
