Looking at a Hakim 8 mm...stock has been sanded and coated in some shiny coating... looks like tru-oil over an oil soaked stock, yuck... bore's nice though and has all matching numbers other than the stock issue.... fair price? I am thinking around $500 to 600....Any thoughts?

I would do it. There is one in the local gun shop 800. Fair shape, sanded stock.

Good price. They're fun rifles, just watch your fingers around the action.

Thats fair. I got one off GB last year for 475 but it needed a gas regulator spring.

Fun gun, really loud. Don't bother trying to save brass if you reload. The bolt beats the hell out of the cases....and that's if you can find the brass...

I had never heard of them when I bought one for 99 bucks at a show years ago... guess I got a good deal on that.

I have heard but I am unable to corroborate that Israel captured a pretty good number of these rifles along with massive quantities of other mil arms in the 50s, 60s, and 70s.

It is possible the stock was refinished by them.

When the West cut off arms sales to the Israelis to please the Arabs, it turned out the Arabs were pretty good arms suppliers to the Israelis...

1956, 1967 and 1973 all brought in a lot of Russian Military Booty from their Arab clients...

I had seen some FN1949 Royal Egyptian 8mm rifles that I could have snapped up cheap ...  Back In The Day...

This thread saddens me.  I was thinking about getting a Hakim but if it's a brass muncher thats a deal breaker.

Yeah, they wreck brass pretty good.

It's a damn fun rifle to shoot, though. Loud as hell, because of the break, but also a pussycat to shoot because of the weight of the rifle and the brake. It REALLY tames 8mm recoil.

You don't want to be to either side of the thing when it's being shot, though. "Obnoxious" doesn't really cover it.

Fun rifles and all the above it true about them. I had two examples of them back in the 90's , one was beautiful and the other the stock looked like someone badly hand carved it. Both functioned well.

FWIW, I sold a Hakim that was typical (good bore, about 85% finish, probably needed a spring kit) for $800 a few weeks ago

it was  a 90's import that sat in a closet for years
