This graphite mold was in with some casting and reloading equipment I got from a guy years ago. I can't for the life of me figure out what you would use it for. What's odd is that it has that hole that goes all the way through, which gets smaller toward the outside. Also it has pouring spouts on both sides but no provision to pick it up and pour with it. I can't imagine using a graphite mold with heat over it in order to subsequently pour
    with it. Anyone?

It's way too big for that (note standard soup can for size reference). An ingot filled up the hole would weigh a good 3-4 pounds. It's a handful, but being graphite doesn't weigh but a tiny amount. BTW, the hole is NOT for any kind of handle, as it's not threaded and it has a step so it's one size on the outside and larger on the inside. I'm not familiar with graphite, but I doubt it's strong enough to lift with anything stuck in there to be used as a handle, at least once you added the weight of lead. Plus the pouring indents seem doubly odd, as graphite is only used for moulds, AFAIK. |

Up here they use lead balls in the 3 to 4 inch diameter size for down riggers.
Salmon fishing in the ocean. I've been out Salmon fishing a few times but I am far from an expert. |

I was kinda thinking there was 2 pieces originally.
You have only half of the mold. Maybe the other piece was dropped and broke? Just speculation. |

I also think that you only got one part of a group of mold parts.
If I didn't know better, I'd swear that's shaped just about right to be the bottom half of a mold for casting ladles. |
