I purchased as shown.
Likely the victim of a "Gun Buy Back"

I knew what I was buying but the first thing I did was check s/n's.   Action, bolt and stock.......all match.

In my stash I have three G.33/40 actions and one is unmolested.  Bluing has been stripped but no holes or other alterations.
I should rebuild this rifle.   Parts are the nicest G.33/40 I have personally owned.

I feel so much safter that they cut up that G33/40, all the gangsters are using those these days

What a damn shame, good on you if you can bring another one back to life though

Yep, it's about time they did something about all those darn Gebirgsjägers doing drive-by shootings off the backs of mules with their short barreled Mausers.

I just watched a beautiful Sako Finnish M39 parts kit that suffered the same fate on GB.  Sad.

Can you guys explain the gun buy back? I know of them but thought they destroyed all that is taken in?

Many companies contract with LE to ‘destroy’ buyback guns, so get paid to accept the guns. Then they only demill the receiver, which by ATF regs is destroying the gun, and sell the remaining parts for almost the price of what a complete firearm would cost.

An example of a company:

And a couple of current kits:

Maybe on common guns.  I have bought several that they undervalued, such as a G.33/40.

Background:
IIRC, the front sight on G.33/40s is integral/milled as part of the barrel.  Meaning I need the barrel to come up short on rotation as it contacts the action.  That way it can be set back minimally to index properly.
If the barrel rotates past the correct indexing, it would mean a large set back to correct and then the rear sight would not fit properly in the upper handguard.

Swapped the barrel to my other action and it came up about 40* short of indexing!   This is good news, as minimal set back needed to get sight alignment correct.
I then pulled out my gauges and the headspace is dead on!   Once indexed/aligned with the action and very light reaming will make it good to go.

I guess I have to save it.

Turned barrel out to put it back in the stock until I can get it to my metal 'smith.
With the handguard installed, you would never know the barrel was unscrewed, so I put an "Unsafe to fire" tag on it in case I get hit by a bus.

Everygunpart.com bought inventory of a surplus seller whose name I cannot recall.  IDK why they deactivate perfectly good firearms, but they do.  I guess they want to avoid having an FFL to sell stuff?  They are morons though, IMO.  They destroyed a lot of perfectly good collectible, historical firearms, and now sell them at, or over, market value (market value of the unmolested counterparts).
